hi
whats the best way of replacing the boot on the dion tube

ps
do i need any gaskets or seals clips etc before i order the boot

There was quite a few posts for this very subject which give a few options.

My prefered method is to drop the whole de-dion tube and elbows by unbolting the half shafts from the discs.

The alternative method it to unbolt the tube from the elbow and change the gaitor.

I would go with the first method because you only need to remove 12 bolts and you have the rear axle off the car instead of lying underneath it in the winter. this also gives you a good chance to properly check the condition of the tube and give it a re-greasing wilst your there.

I'd recommend getting a new set of 1/4 UNF high tensile bolts to replace the ones that secure the elbows to the tubes unless they are in very good condition. Should only cost a few quid. Maybe worth running the threads through with a tap as well to clean them up. They are done up to very small torque settings so it pays to have the fixings in top condition.

I have to agree with BBLongman. Replace all the nuts, bolts and washers when you do the tube. It is an area that is under a lot of pressure from driving forces and is also under attack from road grime/ salt / rocks etc. I routinely replace all the fasteners when doing major services or rebuilds. Having had a half shaft come off at speed reinforces this plan!

Merry Christmas all
