Cylinder heads

I am changing the cylinder heads on my 72 p6 v8. Correct me if im wrong but im sure this would have the higher compression engines. The heads i have to go on it are from a 1975 p6, which im sure would have a lower compression engine. Would there be a difference between the heads? and would it cause any issue running the later heads on earlier engine?

Thanks in advance.

Lewis

The heads are the same, it's the pistons that alter the compression ratio. Why not fit a pair of SD1 or later heads while you've got it apart?

Incidently your 1972 engine will be Hi-comp if it's the original, and if that is causing you any problems, using composite gaskets when you fit the heads would reduce it from 10.5 to about 9.9:1.

Thanks for the information harvey. I would have fitted the SD1 heads but iv already decoked and got these p6 heads ready to go on so may aswell use them now. i do have the composite head gaskets to fit when i change them. Many thanks, Lewis.
