Custom P6

As I promised earlier, here are the original scans (although shrunk by photobucket) that I was e-mailed.

The renderings are by Jeff Haggarty for Street Machine.

The engineers report section makes interesting reading, obviously quite stringent regulations, unlike over here.

Nice to see the details of the roof chop etc, thanks for posting this ! :D

what a crap looking dash :)

I'd agree Graeme but then again - seems to be a body man's design & not an interior specialist. Sans the rear spoiler & speedo :) - this thing would easily be on my Christmas list for next year. 5Ltr blob... vrrrmmm chop? gotta think that's difficult even for the pro's on this site I'm sure but ultra cool.

Did y'all see this bit....

"Any P6B from the early 1970s will do the trick. These things are not expensive. A scan through the classifieds and Unique Cars Magazine shows about three grand can get you a decent runner with minimal rust - that's because most were bought by homesick expatriate Pommy Rover devotees who looked after them and parked 'em in dry garages."

Wow - a bit harsh! Probably right on the money though.

Still love it!

Dont waste your time on the origional suspension??? is this bloke a caveman!! oh thats right he thinks US cars handle better LOL. I don't doubt his enthusiasm but it's competence in system design that worries me.

It is an Australian magazine Graeme... Obviously the Holden Torana is the pinnacle of good suspension design, far superior to that 'wacky' Rover nonsense.
I don't think anyone involved in the project knew anything about the cars. I.e. "Must be fitted with: 2 speed wipers, collapsable steering column, and at least discs at the rear."
Still, it looks awesome from the outside, although i'm not keen on that spoiler either but I love the wheelarches.

Ha just had a closer look at the four scanned images and they're easier to read than my printed copies! I agree, there's some stuff that could be done better, like leaving the dash stock (though it reminds me of the grey 4.2 turbo p6), and not doing that spoiler. I do like the idea of raising the fins on the back, but would try and find some way of splicing two rear light assemblies together to get the height.

I think he has taken some liberties with his drawing of the mid waist height of the side panels, not a complaint but i suspect that its probably the best part of his concept the rest seems more school boy dreams and after market flim flam (you may guess by my tone that I am not a huge fan  ) but I think there are one or two things that could be used in someones design.

Hmm Australian .....oh well an appology to the US members who may have felt a slur was cast lol.

I went to the Historic Rally Car Register show at Gaydon today, and while inside got some pics of the T4

A few close-ups of the bootlid spoiler:

And the exhausts:

Rather, the front end is closer to what a P6 was meant to look like before marketing got cold feet.....

The 4 pot cars have loads of space ahead of the radiator to do a sloping nose......

the real P6 looks rather like a Lotus Elan M100 with its lights up:

There were a couple of prototypes built with this front, but I've nt been able to find a good photo of the front end as built.

A good photo of the rear suspension of T4 as well. Semi trailing independant with the link pick ups corresponding with the diff nose pick up and bottom link pick ups respectively of the donor P6. Front wheel drive of course.

Rover T4. Now THAT'S an exhaust! :D Take that, boy racers with your 3" tailpipe!

I find it amusing that the quad exhausts are almost identical in size and shape to the Range Stormer concept vehicle 8)

I had another look over the T4 today, and noticed the front suspension looks considerably different in construction to the later standard production p6. Next time I go to Gaydon, I'll need to take a torch to get a proper look inside the arches and underneath in general

It was parked next to the T3, which again has a slightly different construction of the de dion rear axle to the production p6. The p6b/Alvis was also nearby, and has an interesting arangement for the oil pump filter take-off.

Cant help but notice a similar overal shape to the Wankle rotary Corsair, maybe just a niche in styling history.

oopps I am totally wrong, combined 2 different cars in my mind for an incorrect statment. The tricks an aging brain can play lol, since researched and found my error.

I'd been thinking why the handbrake linkage looked so different - Front Wheel Drive so outboard calipers .Dunlops ?

That boot lid design is quite interesting, very discrete, wonder if it actually does anything, other than hold the number plate light

Back to the mag designs, I think the boot spoiler and the dash give an indication of the age of the magazine.
