composite inlet manifold gasket

Hello Gentlemen, just a quickie: the new composite gasket which is the modern version of the old made of metal - do you smear with gasket compound including the manifold like the old one??? Anyone? Thanks Chris Varming

Hi Chris, if you haven't got composite headgaskets though it won't fit particularly well as they are much thicker and the holes in the gasket won't line up properly with the ports.

Thanks for your reply to my problem - I ordered 2 new headgaskets and an inlet manifold gasket from GB and the salesman recommended the composite one, but I don't understand what you mean by they won't line up properly with the ports. If they don't line up properly (which mine does) what good are they then? And to which V8 engine will they fit? - I have another question though concerning the automatic 65 BW - when I fit the converter what is the right thing to do: to fit the converter on the engine and then fit the gearbox or fit it to the gearbox and then into the engine? - Chris Varming

I put the composite gasket on with a tin head gasket. It seemed to line up ok on mine...

Basically you should really only use the composite valley gasket with a composite head gasket for a complete match. Works OK with the mismatch though, afterall the difference is a fraction of a millimetre.

Rich.

You need to fit the converter in place on the gearbox, and then fit the whole assembly to the engine.
