Clutch Questions

Hi ,can anyone help

On my 3500S ,which has an LT77 5 speed conversion I have to push the clutch pedal all the way to the floor to operate the clutch ,and the clutch bites as soon as I release the pedal ,I am also losing a bit of clutch/brake fluid ,but sometimes the pedal will operate normally ,could this be the slave cylinder ? I have noticed the slave cylinder appears to be one from a 3500S ,not one for an LT77 gearbox ,would this be an issue ?

If I need to change the slave cylinder ,would it be worth changing it for an LT77 one ,or should I stick with the original ?

Many thanks :D

Further to the above I have noticed that the clutch slave cylinder has the numbers 06-5403 stamped on it ( I think) can anyone identify this unit?

cheers

Hi, AFAIK they are both the same bore size, but the SD1/LT77 cylinder has a bigger metric
thread so you will have to get a pipe made up.

I think that will probably be a casting number, not one for a finished cylinder.

When I put the LT77 into Occie I used a new SD1 cylinder, but getting the correct tube nut flared onto the P6 feed pipe needed a heavy-duty tool.

See http://www.classicroverforum.net/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=9111&hilit=occie+5+speed+box&start=60 about half-way down.

If you use the 3500S cylinder with the LT77 then it needs a spacer between the cylinder and the bellhousing. 1/4" thick springs to mind. But fitting that will make your problems worse not better I think. It sounds like you might have the 3500S pressure plate fitted, because ISTR I had the same problem when I tried that.

Just a quick update on this ,I ended up replacing both the master and slave cylinder ,and the hose that connects the two ,the clutch now operates nice and smoothe 8) ,although I did use some colurful language when I kept dropping the clevis pin

cheers for your help chaps :D
