Clutch Master Cylinder - Refurbishment or replace

No leakage noted, but recent reduction in travel length suggests corrosion may be preventing full stroke.

Any advice on spare availability/ cylinder refurbisment appreciated

When I first bought my 3500S the clutch wouldn't disengage fully and I wasn't getting full travel.

When I dismantled the master cylinder the return spring had broken up and wasn't returning the piston properly to the top of the bore. To get it working again I just replaced the spring (I think I actually used one from a brake master cylinder but I can't be sure now) and cleaned everything before reassembling with the original seals. Obviously I wouldn't recommend cutting corners like that with the braking system but it was a quick cheap fix for the clutch. My master cylinder wasn't woth rebuilding anyway as the thread was k******d where the outlet pipe connects. (The clutch master is alloy rather than cast iron)

I've since bought a secondhand but rebuilt replacement from ebay for about £25 but you can get buy new from JRwadhams for £50 + vat + P&P. A rebuild kit with the spring is a fiver so if there is no other damage you can use that but check the broken spring hasn't scored the bore of the cylinder.

Bit of an awkward job to change due to the restricted space but at least there isn't room to get much of a swing when you're skinning your knuckles!
