Choke cable adjustment

Does it start from cold without choke? If so it's too rich and needs weakening off. If you can't weaken it off then the choke barrel seals may have failed. If it starts on choke but won't run it sounds like the fast idle needs to be set, to prove that start from cold and hold it at 12-1500rpm on the throttle. If that improves things I'll tell you how to set the fast idle screws.

Harvey,
It did start on choke until it was tuned up, car runs fine if you start it and keep your foot on the throttle for a few mins at low revs.

You need to check that both the chokes are operating fully, if not cure that, and move on to below.

That is a lack of fast idle. Once you've proved that both chokes are operating fully, then you need to find the fast idle screws (which screw in upwards, above the fast idle cam on the choke linkage), and adjust them so that as the choke is pulled out and the fast idle cams rotate, the centre of the fast idle screwheads come into contact with the cam in line with the mark that's scribed on the face of the cam itself.

ISTR there were pics of the fast idle cams on here somewhere as it's a common problem.

Ideally you would set the dwell (if points fitted) and the ignition timing before you start on the carbs, as both of those will affect the carb setings.

Cheers,
Mate of mine has tuned it all up, fitted electronic ignition for me and was running a little fast on idle, he then tweaked the carbs and the result was no choke.

It's difficult to speculate, but if it was running fast because it was held on the fast idle setting screws, (rather than the idle screws) then if he backed off the fast idle screws to slow it down (until it then was running on the idle screws) but went too far, and didn't reset them correctly, that could be why you have no fast idle now.
