Chemical Rust Removal

I took a load of engine components down to a local place for chemical de rusting, really impressed with the results

I took the block and the engine tins for my mothers MG midget engine, the block looks brilliant with all the waterways nice and clean and any corrosion has been lifted, the tins are pretty much ready for paint already!

heres a picture of the block, now it needs to go for some machining to bore it to 20thou oversize and then it can be painted up,

ive got a p6 engine lying under a tarpaulin that should hopefully come up just as well when its time for a rebuild on the rover! (Which is on the cards after the midget engine, the p6 gearbox and the mini)

heres a picture, it cost me £90 for block, 4 pieces of external covers (sump, front and rear engine plates and the timing cover) and a big old vice! which wasnt bad when you consider the time you would spend stripping them by hand

we took some Ali heads and bits off of a friends Audi at the same time and they look brand new, much easier than trying to remove the carbon build up by hand! ill grab a photo for you tomorrow if you want to see it.

the company that did it are ribble technology www.paint-strip.co.uk

Would be good. THink i'd need to find someone more local than preston but would like to know more about what's out there!

Thanks,

Rich

That's a Triumph Herald block!

*edit - D'oh! Just realised, sorry. You must have the Midget 1500?

Do they apply some anti-rust coating afterwards as naked metal will rust like fury?

They phosphate coat as much as possible after tip, although o have sprayed the best part of half a can of wd40 into the oilways and water jacket to minimise rusting.

Yep 1500 triumph engine in all its rubish high reving glory!

looks good - does this work on alloy and iron engines?

I had the manifold chemically stripped before it was powdercoated earlier this year as I wanted to make sure all the cavities and waterways were clean inside. It was done locally and cost £35, they can do steel bodyshells too.
