Daft question I have a s3 landrover and has the carb missing but I have a set of twin carbs off a 2000tc p6 would i be able to fit these to see it it fires up and check the engine ??

I very much doubt it. The Landy's inlet manifold is fused to the exhaust manifold so fiddly to remove on its own.
I have a spare carb or two from SIII Land Rovers knocking about if you want to do it the easy way. It'll be tomorrow evening before I can dig them out though. I'm thinking a tenner plus postage.

Hi that sounds the best way I don't get payed for two weeks but I'm interested in one thanks Chris

Hi Chris, can you have a look at the top of your manifold and check if there's a spacer present? It should be about 1cm thick and made of a hard fibre material. There may be a wide vertical tube/sleeve sticking up out of the centre. Describe what's there and it'll give me a better idea of what you need - if the spacer's missing you won't be able to use a carb without one.

Hi Chris, you have a choice!
A Webber or a Zenith. Both in similar condition - filthy but sound. Everything that should move does.
So whichever you choose will need a good clean. They've been unused for at least a year so any fibre washers will have dried out. This means they're likely to leak a bit until they've swollen enough to seal.
Webbers were sold as aftermarket carbs with claims of improved economy. Some folk claim they cause a loss in power. Other folk love them.
Zeniths were original fitment.
http://www.glencoyne.co.uk/carbs.htm explains all (ignore the twin choke Webber).

I took a couple of photos but can't post them until tomorrow. Let me know if you want me to.

Boxed weight is about 2.5Kg. I haven't checked postage cost yet, but you can get an idea if you google "CollectPlus" and fill in the boxes to get a price. I'll be dropping it off near LL59 5AB.

Yes, but not just bolt it on. Need an adaptor plate to change from webber/solex/zenith pattern to SU and a right angley bit to get the SU the right way up.

Once it's done it's 1000000 times better than the webber (mine was a 34ICH), more power, better acceleration and more economy, and I just chucked it on with no airflow considerations or anything. My carb came off a metro, it's a KIF 44. Some pics :

I have a vague memory of reading somewhere that Land Rover fitted Strombergs instead of SUs on the Range Rover V8 because SUs don't work when being excessively tipped around. i.e. when climbing or descending steep hills. It's something to do with the float chamber fuel pickup not being concentric with the float chamber, so the fuel pickup varies depending on vehicle angle. Strombergs are concentric, so don't suffer from this.

Zenith on left, Webber on right.
The Webber should just bolt on. I guess the bottom part is the adaptor so perhaps isn't included when you buy them new.
The fuel inlet pipe is larger diameter on the Webber so you might need to make something up to fit it.
Also, you might need to fiddle about with the choke and accelerator cable connections depending on what your Landy has present. But for the sake of just firing it up, you can do it by hand.
