Carb leakage

Hi
On a trip with my 75 2200 TC I could smell petrol. When I checked, I saw some leakage from the place in front of the carb shown in the picture. I tightened the screw, and it stopped. Was OK after that, but it seemed too simple. Does anyone know the type of problem, and what I should do to be sure it is OK?

I think that's part of the casting to allow the carb body to be either LH or RH depending on application, that would be where the choke barrel would be for the other hand. If you've tightened the screw and it's stopped leaking then I'd just keep an eye on it for a while to see if the leak reoccurs.
The only thing I would add is to look for any signs of running rich as it may be that fuel is leaking past the choke seals to get to the back of that screw when it shouldn't be there when all is as it should be.

That's actually the float chamber vent, under the alloy ID tag is a hole that opens out into the top of the chamber, some BL cars had a domed cover fitted with a leak-off pipe to divert fuel away from the exhaust manifold,
Fuel spilling out means the chamber is flooding and the likely cause is dirt/grit in the float valve preventing it from closing properly,
It's also possible that the float itself is punctured,
