my 2000 sc will only fire up on 2 cylinders,if I,m, lucky,I,ve changed distibutor cap,rotar arm,ht leads,spark plugs,petrol pump,and carb,points and condenser
Any idea why she will only fire up on 2 cylinders,I,ve ran out of ideas,HHHEEEELLLLPPPP,PLEEEAAASSSEEE

If it was running ok before you started playing with it, ???
Its got to be something simple like youve got the firing order wrong, the points are not set right, loose wire! start putting back the bits youve changed one by one and you may find the fault :p
good hunting :D
ps aren't classics fun :p :p

Have you checked that you are getting a spark on the plugs that aren't firing?

Have the leads been put on wrong and the timing out?

If you look at the inside of the and the rotor arm, and work out if there are leads on the wrong plugs. you could get the engine to TDC which would give you a good strating point.

i took her out of the garage 3 weeks ago brought her home caz the rover 75 was dead again went to go to the scrap yard for so parts for the 75 and she would not start thats why ive been replacing these parts to start with there was not a lot of petrol coming throgh changed fuel pump and carb started up fine went round the block fine got into the close and died so i changed the dizzy cap and so on started up went to the scrap yard got what i needed comeing home went on to 2 cylinders and limped home :( ive always been able to relie on the p6 up to now  now i just feel sad

I misunderstood the sequence of events here, I thought the car went on to 2 cylinders and you fitted all the parts to try and cure it. I would now agree it's probably something you've done along the way.(I'd still check the compressions though, what harm can it do?)

one thing I did when I had a similar fault with a dolly sprint, was to feed fuel into the carb via fuel can/pipe and with gravity,if that worked, great!! then I disconnect the fuel line from the tank side of the pump, and put a bit of pipe into a fuel can,if that works ok, youve got a pump-tank line blockage,if it doesnt your fuel pump may be partially blocked only allowing a small amount through.if it runs ok on tickover but as soon as revs/demand increases, it dies, misfires, fuel supply cannot keep up due to the blockage.
good hunting!

i have striped cleaned the fuel pump there was a lot of crap in it put back together ran allright for 5,10 mins back to 2 clylinders again there be a ghost at work here

connect a petrol can with some flexi fuelpipe to the fuel inlet side of the fuel pump and try it.
if that works at first then starts to run on 2 again I would check your carbs float valve isnt sticking shut or jamming 1/2 open stopping enough fuel getting through.
if however, all works well, then put an air line on the fuel pump to tank pipe and blow it through and that should clear any blockage. thats what was wrong with my sprint!! sediment had blocked the outlet pipe in the fuel tank, only allowing 1/3 the fuel through.
you also might have a 1/2 open/closed or siezed reserve fuel tap

OTHERWISE ITS SPPOOOKKKYYY!!!!

Perhaps crud is coming from the fuel tank and if you dismantle the pump you will find it full again. And if this is the case then probably you will find that the fuel bowls in the carbs contain dirt too...
Then you know what you have to do; clean the fuel tank!

i disconecked the fuel line to the pump and blue down it the wifie stood at the filler cap and could here bubbles down the neck didnt take to much puff {haha oppps} to do this dont seem like there was a blockage my last v8 had the problem you are describing and could not blow down the fuel line i went blue in the face so i used a funnel and line she fired up first turn of the key :O

got to be a sticking carb float valve,is your float chamber under or alongside the carb? if under they are a pain as youve got to strip the carb off. hopefully rov71 can pop round and help you,2 heads better than one, might be something silly thats been overlooked!! easilly done :p

Tim, did you say you had swapped the carb as part of the replacement process ?, maybe worth putting the original one back on.

hi mr rov71 would be very greatful if you would have a look my phone number is 01302 340943 the orginal carb is back on stripped and cleaned same for the fuel pump im at a lose here i can not sea the problem
