Car of the Year - 50th Anniversary

One of the things that first got my attention on P6's was that in 1975 they were voted the worlds safest car (in France I think) checking on google does not reveal any detail on that but I can clearly remember where I was at the time when I heard it on the radio.

Does that actually mean anything, Graeme? In France in 1975 the competition consisted of the 2CV and the VéloSoleX.

YUP the P6 was voted safest car at that time but got shunted out of the top spot by Volvo soon after

It's astonishing to think that in 1975 a car launched in 1963 could take out the top spot for safety. Upon launch the P6 was so far ahead of everything else that it hurts to think about what happened to the Rover brand in later years.

Quite agree. Only one word sum up what happened to Rover - "criminal".
