BW65 Selector Indicator

They are identical plastic castings, it's just the detailing that's different. Good luck trying to find a good second hand one though, they all seem to be damaged in some fashion these days.

IIRC, from new, the ones that had the arrow indicator and the stainless slide, were the ones with the ball shaped gearknob, not the sculpted one.

I know that the P5B has the selector on the transmission tunnel in the same style as the P6B, but does the P5 also or is it a column shift too? I have a suspicion it is the latter... :?

Our Mk1a P5 auto had the column shift, as did MkII's. But the P5B is basically a MKIII P5 with the V8 inserted & accompanying styling fripperies such as the rostyles & foglights fitted. And one of the carry-overs is the tunnel-mounted auto-shift.

Thanks KR... :D The pics that you posted make it much clearer. I was actually thinking along the lines of a red arrow that moved beneath the clear cover plate pointing towards the selected gear. I can see the metal slide in the parts book too, but it has no arrow marked upon it, hence my confusion.

Thanks indeed!!

Hello RM,

And thank you to you too.. :D

Ron.

As far as I remember all P5's had column mounted selector levers, (with 5 selector positions, PRNDL for the BW35) and all P5B's were on the tunnel, with 6 position selectors of either early or late type.

Damn! That'll teach me to look in the book first. Harvey is of course, right. As were you Ron. I was convinced in my own mind that they'd changed the auto layout for the MKIII, but my own mind let me down again.

The lever was probably moved to the tunnel, because modifying the column to take a 6 position selector would have been far more expensive than using all the parts they already had from the P6B.

Thanks, I'll stick with the one i've got in that case as the only thing that seems to be missing/damaged from it is the securing clip that holds it in place, so I'm sure i can live with non-originally correct lettering.

I've painted over the clear plastic sections and made a new retaining clip out of a cunning combination of paperclip and duct tape so it's now fitting pretty well in the tunnel cover and with some adjustment of the cover positioning is also now allowing the shifter to move correctly to either end in the gate.

One step closer to getting the old girl back on the road soon hopefully.. :)
