Hi
When chasing a starting issue on the Elegant Thirsty Dinosaur a few weeks ago, I managed to pull one of the tangs out of the inhibitor switch! I bypassed it for a while but now I have no reverse lights. I pulled the pesky thing off the car and opened it up last night. It is basically a load of copper fingers on rings that move around to press against the end of the brass connecting tangs. Now 80 quid seems like a pot of money for a simple switch! It looks like the part is generic to the BW65 , not P6 specific but SD1 and Stag parts are all the same price. Even 35 squid second-hand seems a little brutal (when factoring in the value of my New Zealand "Pesos" and postage from the old country) so I am eager to try and lash it up. The less I spend on the Rover the more I can spend on the 230 CE project..
I thought 'If I can get the little tangs to stay in place while I reassemble it, I could probably build up an epoxy glue fillet to retain it'. I tried this last night and it looked ok but after glueing and re-riveting the housing, it is basically jammed. I`m going to open it up again tonight and see what went wrong.
Anyone have any thoughts on whether this is even worth pursuing? I like the idea of making good what I`ve got wherever possible, but if I`m on hiding to nothing I`ll put the araldite away and pay up..
Cheers
