Borg warner gear kick down.

My car is dropping down a stage with hard acceleration but I have to push very hard floor and it feels a little too late if needing to pass cars.
What is wrong here if anything. Is there an adjustment to make kick down more responsive.
Cheers Stewart

Before fiddling about - Make sure your ATF is at the right level. Car on the flat , Motor warm and running at idle and then check the level is correct .
Use ATF type F not dextron . You'll bust the BW35

Harvey is the man to advise, but if you tighten the cable slightly you should get an earlier kickdown.

The first thing to check after the fluid level is the condition of the bushes in the throttle linkage, as if they're worn the kickdown cable will lag behind the throttle opening, and that can give the problem you have, eventually getting to the point where it won't kickdown at all.

Hi Harvey .
I removed the air cleaner etc to check out linkages today. Yes they are all pretty worn. Some shafts are needing welding . I'll pop into my lathe and resize or just make new ones.Make new nylon bushes and fit should be good. I imagine all those baggy shafts add up to a slow reaction to acceleration etc.

I had exactly this problem. Needed new bushes and the coupling replaced. In fact I stabbed the accelerator to test the kickdown and it broke. On the S1 at least the mechanism is really cheap and nasty.
