Hi all, My son just picked up a 1964 mk3 ford zodiac yesterday, and I need to ask for some help. He told me that it goes through the gears realy nice and smooth, but he is having problems finding the correct gear (drive) when it goes into gear it appears to jump quite a bit ( my observation) so any ideas would be great. At the moment I told him to move the selactor down to low gear and just move it back up until he feels the next gear which should be correct, the selector is NOT a floor change

Column shifters tend to have lots more links and joints compared to a floor mounted one due to their relative positions so I'd check all the linkage for free play. Once that's eliminated I'd check the fluid level, and check for play in the drivetrain, and set the idle speed. Once all the above is OK you have the kickdown cable adjustment to try to remove the harsh engagement. It's probably a 5 position selector on that and if that's the case it's one position less to worry about.

I want a Mk3 Zody auto, and I want to put a Rover V8 in it. Does that make me a bad man?

if it makes you a bad person fo fitting the rover v8, what will it make my son who was talking about a chevy engine?. thanks for the advise about the linkage ect. By the way the box is a recon unit if it makes it any better

There were a lot of NOS boxes about for those a while back, but due to the long period of storage some of those had a few problems. If it is a recently done recon I would have hoped that the linkage and kickdown cable would have been sorted at the time, but it depends on who did it I suppose....
