Boot mounted spare.

My 3500S does not have a spare wheel.

I understand there is a kit that you can get to bolt one onto the boot.
Apparently there is some sort of screw on badge you can get for when the spare is not on the back???

Has anyone got any photos to show me how this little lot works and goes together? Where would I go to aquire the kit?
Can i re-use my existing bootlid or do I have to buy another one?

You can use your existing bootlid, but you will need the big reinforcing bracket that fits inside the bootlid, and all the fittings that screw to the bootlid. When in use, there is a little lever inside the bootlid that acts as an anittheft catch, and locking device. The catch is simply pulled down, the badge turns through 90 degrees to remove it, then an alloy spacer fits in its place. The spare wheel then sits on top of the alloy spacer, and a large screw wheel holds the spare wheel down. this has a slot cut in the bottom for the same catch that holds the badge in place.
There are different alloy spacers for steel wheels, and Rostyles however, and I don't think there is one available for fitting an alloy wheel, so if running Minilites, you'll have to have a standard steel spare.
As you're respraying the whole car, I'd get a bootlid with the whole kit already fitted. Try IanP6man, or ebay, as they often turn up. :)

Thanks for that. Its nice to know that allthough the P6 is a very niche interest, those that are in the know are indeed very knowlegable.

I dont think that having a Steel wheel as a spare would be an issue. Its covered afterall anyway. Besides, it is literally a *spare* i.e there to help you out in the short term untill you get your normal wheel sorted out.
I have a RO-style as my spare wheel on my MGBGT V8 conversion which is fitted with Reliant scimitar (original BV8 look-alike) wheels. It does mean carrying 4 ro-style nuts around but that isnt exactly a hardship!

I would like a bootmounted spare wheel kit if I could find one. Who is this "P6man" you speak of? Does he have a website I can look at?
Unfortunately I just blew this months budget on a good set of doors as the original ones look a bit crusty round the bottom!

Cheers,

theres a spare wheel boot mounting kit on ebay at the moment, i just saw it when browsing for a rear wing it looks as though everything is there but im not too certain or knowledgable about it.

Spare Wheel Kit

Thanks for that. Its in my watch list.
I have a contact for a bootlid strengthener.
I would need a boot stay though. Perhapse I could retrofit an MGB Roadster bootstay?

Spare Wheel Kit
If you only get what is in the picture, it is missing the prop and guide, the boot lift handle, the strengthener and there is also a different bracket for in the boot so that all those parts can be used to store the spare in the boot if req'd.
