Blocked clutch?

#1
I went to get the P6 TC from the garage (closed box type) after a 8 week break and to my horror getting into reverse with the engine running caused severe grating of the gears, so I stopped! With the motor off gear selection is OK, but with the motor running only reverse is possible to select to the gate entry as described. I assume I have a stuck clutch, confirmation would be useful, a solution even better. A major problem is the location I am in a back to back garage block with limited space to maneuver and once out it must be sorted otherwise I block the other garages! Sound advice most appreciated.
What a pig and ho for more space and cover, good garages to rent are almost impossible to rent locally (around Christchurch Dorset).

My Elan clutch used to stick pretty much every time. Try warming the car up and then turning off, engage reverse, depress clutch pedal, try to start car, the shock may free the clutch.

Did you try to get it into forward drive? If that's possible it won't be a stuck clutch, if it's the same as reverse then it most likely is.

Just got back from the garage and the starting in reverse trick worked -great, now moving again.
As this was the first time in many years was a bit nervous in a confined space, but it freed fairly easily.
I also feared a sudden problem with the gear shifts, but nothing untoward.

Thanks for the replies which gave me confidence to proceed.

Any tips as to why it got stuck in good dry conditions after only 8 weeks, it was the first time ever and has spent several winters in this garage (being run at least every month.

If nothing has changed in regards to adjustment or hydraulics- loss of fluid etc, a simple one might be something stuck under the pedal not allowing full clutch travel, ie carpet
