best rust treatment products

Hi all

Im thinking of using Rustbuster products on my car as I am planning on applying a resh layer of underseal to my '73 3500S

my question is, are Rustbuster products any good? some people say they are amazing, others say I should use shutz, so im not sure what to go for! if anyone else knows of any other good brands id be interested to hear them, as it'll easily cost me £350 if I buy it all from rustbuster

Thanks

On several classic cars I have owned I have had very good long-lasting results with the following treatments (though I did have them applied professionally):
Dinitrol 3125 cavity wax injected into all panels and then sprayed onto underside.
Underside then coated with Dinitrol 4941 body underseal.
The combination of 3125 followed by the 4941 coating is extremely effective.
Before the work was done I had the underside steam cleaned, then thoroughly dried and any areas of rust treated with a rust killer.
Not had this work done on my Rover (yet) but have used it on a Capri, an XJS and a Datsun 260Z to very good effect.
Don't know where you are based but the work on my cars was done by a company called Chassis Clean in Lymm, Cheshire. Not cheap, but worth it.

When you say, fresh layer of underseal, what do you mean ?
Do you remove the old underseal first or do you want to apply over the old one ? If the old one will not be removed, you can be sure, it has cracks, so no 2nd underseal should be used, but "oily" stuff, which softens the old underseal and penetrates rusty areas. In general, it´s hard to give advices, as rust preventation will be worth for threads the next 1000 years. My personal experience in the meantime is, less is more. I remove all old underseal and use a special paint (Brantho Korrux), then a thin layer of transparent wax OR I do only use Fluid Film (my favourite) and inspect regularly.
Ok, but I must say, I´m one of these guys who´s more lying under the car than sitting inside...

I'm based in Surrey, so chesire is a fair way from chesire! RustBuster are based in Lincolnshire which is abit closer, but i wonder if there are any places down south i can take the car to get treated?

The best what you can do. If you are doeing it yourself, costs will be very low, but it will take time, time, time...
If it´s off, I would not use again such a stuff, but a special primer for bodywork and then thin (!) layer with transparent i.e. Dinitrol wax. It must be a wax, which get´s dry and does not stay "sticky".
If you go to a specialist, I think, it will be an expensive work and worth only with high-prices classics.
Or you will find one who´s blasting off your old underseal with dry ice and the rest you are investing yourself.
