Beryl on track

Yesterday I took the P6 up to Lime Rock Park for the VSCCA spring sprints. Running in the preservation class (sorta 7/10ths racing). I have to say the suspension mods, fast road cam and Pirelli CN36 tyres made a huge difference. I was able to keep up and deal with Alfa Guiliattas and Lancia Fulvias no problem. Here’s some in car footage of one session if anyone is interested.

Great video !
Does not look to be much body roll, ride height looks god too.
I bet it's a job to remember how she was before you started all this now.

Good job. Looks like you now have plenty of front end grip, able to hit all your apexes.
I admire the Lime Rock a really beautiful track, especially with the Preservation Class. When you were chasing down the Lancia, I was singing 'The self preservation society' song.

@Gargo I rather regretted giving the Lancia the point by. (He’s a friend) he kept braking just before the uphill turn. You can do that at wide open throttle with the uphill giving you extra grip.

I must admit, I do have the Italian job soundtrack on my phone for some journeys!

@cobraboy I must admit, it’s tough to remember how soft she felt before. By the end of the day I was feeling very confident in the old girl, both in power delivery and handling. It makes an excellent Q car. Was told by the chap in the Fitch Corsair he thought I had a V8. I’ll take that.

I am not sure that i understood very well the video, but weren't you most of the time in 3rd gear?
If yes, as far as i understand this is a very good work out for the gearbox, perhaps it would be better to take care of it by more frequent oil changes, using something obviously of good quality.
Good job on Beryl though, it must be very satisfying to release the potential of these cars.
I guess the next step would be to add lightness, but i am not sure if this is entirelly feasible. I do remember very well when i painted my TC, and i had to drive it around the yard of the body and paint shop, without doors, wings, bonnet, boot, bumpers, valences. The way it was picking up its skirts was something else.

Yes, we do most of Lime Rock in 3rd. 4th is reserved for the main straight (and sometimes No Name Straight along the back), I do the same in the mini, and that is faster and has lower gearing. Engine gets an oil change after a weekend on track. Gearbox oil is checked and examined for metal. I rebuilt the box a couple of years ago. It seems to be holding up well. Typically running between 60-80 mph on most of the track, with 90-93mph by the end of the main straight. Hit brakes hard before turn 1 (nicknamed Big bend) normally just after [1] on the marker boards, dive into first apex of the big bend's two apexes. Its a fun track with a good amount of elevation change which makes it all the more fun.

Piper cam really comes on above 3000rpm. 3500 onwards it pulls very well.
