quick question regarding the rear mounted battery box,

should it have a metal frame around the outside of the plastic box? mine has a frame that looks a little heath robinson, should this be fitted or has it been added in to deal with the fact that the plastic box was cracked?

thanks

Jamie

Hi, no metal frame as standard. Yes, someone has added it to fix the problem.
Personally I think it is asking a lot to support some thing the weight of a battery
without any strengthening. So I have done the same.

The battery boxes found within U.K market cars were always completely fibre glass. I suspect that was seen as a means of preventing the box from rusting away and then said battery from falling onto the road.

Rovers for the Australian market in contrast never came with fibre glass boxes, only the lids were made this way. The box which holds the battery was made completely of steel which was given a plastic coating.

I've never had any trouble with the fibre-glass battery boxes - they seem pretty strong to me. I have a couple of spares if you need one Jamie. Should be able to send one via CollectPlus (to your nearst shop that acts as an agent) for a tenner or so. Drop me a PM with your postcode is you'd like me to look into it.
