For the interested out there it would appear that the Yorkshire Ripper, Peter Sutcliffe drove.......yes a Rover P6.

I found this info. on www.imdb.com (Internet Movie Database) although I was not aware that the man was thought of as a celebrity, but then again in today's Big Brother obsessed world.....

Just hope he didn't drive a '73 Monza Red with Ebony leather.....gulp!

I just hope this particular model has departed this world and no poor unsuspecting individual is driving around in it:

Sutcliffe was arrested by the police for displaying false number plates on his Rover car. (The number plates actually belonged to a Skoda.) Peter Sutcliffe had stolen the plates from a scrapyard in nearby Dewsbury. on his Rover P6 and propositioning a prostitute.

Peter Sutcliffe drove various cars throughout the period in which he was convicted of the murders of several women. He also owned white Ford Corsair. I read a 50p paperback on his crimes and never read that he owned or drove a P6. But am probably mistaken.

Uh! Oh! Continuing through the book, I found to my horror and now worried at my memory loss...he drove a Brown Rover 3500 with a Black vinyl roof, this WAS the car he was apprehended in, with the dodgy plates off a Skoda! The registration was FHY 400K...I checked with the dvla, it`s not currently registered or sorn`d!! He scrapped the Red Corsair he had as it had a `raggy` gearbox!

Did you also know that the farmer Tony Martin drove a Mexico Brown 2000,
He was the guy that shot and killed a teenager who he caught burgling his farmhouse'
It was still on his drive when he got released from prison,

OOOER!!!!, Does that mean that i'm gonna turn into a homicidel maniac :p :p

Maybe it suggests that Peter Sutcliffe and Tony Martin are not all bad ..............at least they had taste in cars

I also drove a white Corsair 2000E in my youth , Lord Lucan was a Corsair driver

From what I gleaned from the two cases I don't think you can compare Sutcliffe to Martin. Many people would say Martin was defending his property against unknown intruders after a long series of such invasions. Indeed, around that time, Radio 4 put out an invitation to listeners to vote on a new law & whichever was the most requested, that law would be implemented by Parliament. Guess what the polite, civilised & respectable Radio 4 audience voted for by a wide margin? The right to defend your property from intruders. Of course the Government couldn't back-pedal away from that one fast enough as they wouldn't want to erode the Human rights of criminals, Heaven forbid.

Tell me about it! I`m a prison officer and I work with many repeat offenders on a daily basis, they have more rights than most of us.

I remember seeing a news report from Tony Martin's farm, and the Mexico Brown P6 was in the camera shot.

I also seem to remember that in some states of America, what Tony Martin did is quite legal!

Years ago a British tourist was lost in I think Florida? Knocked on a door and was shot and killed through the door. Did not enter the house and the door was not opened. The house owner faced no charges.

I seemed to remember the Tony Martin P6 looked in quite a poor way and that he was assisted in clearing the grounds of his house when he was released (by all accounts the place was pretty derelict). Would be interesting to know if the P6 is still alive or whether it ended up in some Norfolk breakers yard..

AFAIK, burglary is not a common offence in the U.S as the perps know most people have a gun & their own serious injury or death is likely to occur if they attempt a forced entry into someone else's property.

I guess that answers that,...can't see the reg but judging by the photo in the article i'd say that the car is no longer around

And the photo was taken by

"Car at Martin's farm (picture by Marilyn Rust, BBC Radio Norfolk)"

Very appropriate!

Not sure the original tool roll would have been complete in Mr Sutcliffe's car?

(sorry, in bad taste, but I could not resist a gag at his expense)...

The Human Rights Act 1998 was an instrument that was passed by the current encumbents seemingly just to make overpaid legals like Ms Chahal, Cherie Blair and the ilk even richer on the back of legal aid provided the the good old British cashcow, sorry, taxpayer. What about the human rights of the ladies that were either murdered or the luckier ones who survived at the hands of Sutcliffe? Will they be represented by the irrepressible Ms Chahal for having their rights to walk the street without being attacked. I think not.

What I find incredible is that this individual actually qualifies for legal aid to fund his case. What people like Ms Chahal and the legal aid board seem to forget is that Sutcliffe murdered 13 women and attacked many more. It is inevitable that a case with so much notoriety will attract half-truths and misconceptions - a hammer murderer can hardly expect plaudits for what he has done.

No wonder this country is in the mire that it is now. Common-sense has left the building.

That is my Littlejohn moment over.

Back to more pressing issues such as sorting out that earthing problem on the brake pad warning circuit (see other post)!
