Auto sump pan gasket - leaky

ok - sump gasket on auto box was leaking and someone, not me! had tried to seal round edge with slicone type compound.

So in May I got a new cork gasket, correclty cleaned all old stuff off etc but the blooming was leaking again after a short run.

I have another new gasket to go on.
Any hints/ tips ??
Should I use gasket sealant (did not last time but dont like to with cork gaskets, plus dont want any squeezing of inside and getting tinto the autobox....

Those cork gaskets are a pain. Mine leaks and it is only 6-months old. I've been under the car to check the bolts as I found I had to tighten them again after a month once the new gasket was fitted as I imagine that the cork is quite springy. I lose a few drops but it stops once the fluid cools down and becomes less viscous.

I've put it down to one of those things, keep an eye on the level (preferring a hot reading to cold) and have a bottle of TQF in the boot for topping up.

If it's only a few drops, I'd suggest leaving it as one of those things. I have a hefty piece of cardboard under the car to soak up the drips (the engine sump loses a few drops when warm too), it's handy as a check too for more serious leakage.

hi sc auto and rovertron
i also had the same problem but found it to be a hairline crack in the sump casing around the area of the dipstick tube entry point. the only remady is to get ya wellies on and drain the stuff,i would also recomend a golfing umbrela (is that why the club sells them?). mine was repairable with braising on the inside around the threaded boss.
i dont think they were a partically oil tight autobox when they were new though and i find auto fluid better than wax oil for resisting rust

warped ! :( - supm pan was actually very un flat! also has been over tightend as bolt holes all pulled up
so tap tap tap with hammer and dolly (not her again) and its not to bad, back on car, bolts nipped up, oil still to go in....

hi your right with the pan warping. But why not try evostik or similar just between pan and gasket and vaseline on the other side :D
