Auto Oil Change - How much oil

Drained the oil out of the gear box yesterday, only got 2 litres out, yet the manual says there are 8 in there ?, so on the basis that I only changed 25% I did it again after a run - this still means I have changed less than 50% of the oil !.

Has anyone else done this, i.e. is there a way of getting more oil out ?

The gear changes are now a lot smoother both up and down.

When I did mine, I ran it up a slight incline, 1/2 up some ramps are fine, I left it for about 3 hours and got a good 3 litres out. I know the torque convertor holds about 2 1/2 to 3 litres.

I topped it up, ran it round the block, then did another drain, then topped it up again.

That was about the best I managed. It did improve things, while you are at it and it is a personal preference, add a conditioner, Wynns do a very good one. I found the oil change and the conditioner made the changes much smoother.

Do Wynns do a conditioner specifically for auto box? I always understood to put a friction reducing addative in an auto box was to loose all drive - coating brake bands and friction clutch plates with a friction reducer not being a good idea???

As I understand it, it is not a Teflon-type additive.. more to do with re-conditioning seals prone to wear and more importantly old age.

I've had a look around the web and found a few that you can use - still reckon mine will need rebuilt but ordered some anyway - heck of a lot cheaper - worth a try ! (noisy)???
