Hi,

I've just looked in my 2200 parts book. The crank for the auto and manual are listed with different part numbers. The crankshaft dowel and spigot bush are different too. I don't know what the physical difference is.

The cranks are the same, it's the spigot bushes that are different. You can fit any engine to any transmission by swapping the spigot bushes over. That part numbers are probably different for the same reason that V8 engines had different part numbers for auto and manual, and that's because they're supplied fitted with a spigot bush from the factory.

But isn't getting the spigot off a bit of a ceremony/pain in itself? :(

If it was easy, everybody would be doing it! You've got two choices, persevere and do it, or give up.
Auto ones tend to be more difficult to remove than manual ones, but that's often because they're being replaced after a flexplate failure and they're damaged.

I usually fill the bush/space in the crank with thick grease then using a metal bar which is a good fit in the bush drive it into the bush using a hammer and the grease hydraulics the bush out.

Hi all its all sorted now, im still learning about these cars and loving every minute of it.thanks for all the help and Ian Wilson again. im sure i will be asking more questions soon, again thankks very much.
it was a case of replacing the spigot with the one out of the old engine and bolting on the flywheel so its good to fit now
