Auckland Ellerslie Concours show 2014

Better late than never. I went to the flashy Ellerslie car show a couple of weeks ago and took a bunch of pictures until my camera battery died. This is traditionally a lot more upmarket than the Galaxy of cars show the previous weekend and there were certainly some rarities there but I managed to find some stuff I was interested in too!

FD Victors. I've always had a soft spot for these and had several in my youth (before I discovered Rovers) The blue one must be one of just a few remaining VX4/90s left in the world and the other two were both 3.3 litre 6cyl versions.

An HC Firenza and a nice HB GT.

Lovely HB GT.

Not entirely sure what this was. Sebring Sprite perhaps?

Some Japanese classics. Mitsi Starion, series 1 RX7 and Subaru Vortex.

Alpines.

Jowetts.

Couple of nice Rollers. They had a new one there too, and the new Wraith coupe.

Rare Camargue. Don't see them every day!

Some Aston arses.

More Astons.

Tidy Sunbeam Alpine and something I can't recall. Interesting though.

Sunbeam Tiger. Grrr.

Ginetta G15. Didn't think there were any of these in NZ.

Triumph PI Estate.

Triumph TR6 and TR7.

Nice TR5.

Jaguar XJ220. How many of these did they make?

This was my absolute fave car of the show. A rat-look Daimler dart with some beefy running gear:

One of two Jensen Healeys there and a seriously rare Jensen SV8!

And a Jensen SP with triple 2 barrel carbs on it's 7.2 litre V8.

Nice photos on a nice summer day! We British are whimpering in envy as we survey our flooded landscape!

The red Sprite No45 in the fourth shot has a front hinged, one piece fibreglass front made by Ashley Laminates. They also made a fastback hardtop for Spridgets that replaced soft-top and the bootlid.

The red 2 seater in the shot with Sunbeam Alpine I recall but can't identify (eheu fugaces labuntur anni) but the wheels, and presumably the rest of the running gear, originate with the Ford E93A of the early 1950's, so a true Ford special of the Colin Chapman era (though its definitely not a Lotus)

That Daimler SP450 creation looks really interesting! I don't think I'd have gone down that route for the transmission, but a very interesting car.
I've always wanted to put one of those in a MkX to recreate that mythical beast.

Motor is straight out of his big brother - majestic major
The weight of that big lump and corresponding g/box made her quite a handful

Interesting. The S-V8 checks out on CarJam as a 1998 model, but according to Wikipedia the model commenced production in August 2001. Followed by the company going under in July 2002.
