Aren't I a clever sod!

Just had to post this because I'm feeling so full of myself and just had to tell someone! (the wife only pretends to be impressed)

Since fitting the 5 speed box to my V8 estate I've been pondering how to get a correct reading from the speedo. The obvious answer is to get teh speedo recalibrated but it's around £60 and there is no guarantee that it will read any better than 10%.

Having fitted digital bicycle speedo to my classic bikes in the past I thought that might be the obvious solution. In fact someone on here posted that they had done just that by fitting the sensor to the front strut and the magnet to the inside rim of the wheel.

My original plan was to fit the magnet and sensor to the prop to avoid long runs of wire etc but when I dug the second hand speedo out of the bits box I couldn't find the magnet that goes with it.

After a bit of searching around and experimenting with waving the sensor around at various other magents I realised all was required was a small weak magnet to trigger it but where to find one?

Suddenly I realised it's obvious, there original rover speedo has a magnet in it and whats more there whirling round already!
I found my spare speedo and after a bit of fiddling around realised all I had to was glue the pickup to the inside of the casing so that it was close to the magnets when assembled and file a small nick in the green perspex surround for the cable. Hey presto a digital speedo for free!

Anyway apart from blowing my own trumpet I thought it would be worth posting as it might be a useful mod for others who like me are too stingy to pay out for re-calibration.

Cheers
