Air Filter Question

Hi do both ends come off air filter box? I want to change filters but only one end has clips. Haynes manual is vague. Any one help. Thanks.

Just one end comes out. You just need arms like twizzle to fit the filter to the other end. No problem. Sd1 get both ends removeable.

yes ive just removed my air filter assy and found that out.
I was wondering if anyone has designed/changed the air filter set up.
I had pod filters connected directly to the SUs on my series 1 v8 and what an improvement on breathing and response!
I would like a change to my s2 v8 but looking to have a better/nicer looking design if possible?
I dont wish to run into problems like hesitations etc because of mixture settings or whatever, but it maybe running rich as it is,
just because of it age without carb maintenance.
but any advice would be great thanks

Some numbers from Des Hammill's book, power outputs from a 3.9 engine (standard SU carbs and a standard but modified inlet manifold) but unfortunately no figures for the standard system although I'd imagine the standard paper filter is going to be a lot more restrictive than cone filters or nothing at all.
no airfilter, elbows or elbow adapters : 240bhp
full radius rampipes : 247bhp
cone air filters on the standard elbow adapters : 242bhp
ally elbows with separate big K&N's (they are big, the diagram shows the ends touching) and an air separation plate between them : 256bhp
I'm running a pair of aftermarket gauze cone filters inside the standard airbox and didn't need to change any carb settings, I didn't notice any difference in power, fuel consumption or noise.
One of my old filters (I don't think this is standard?) and the replacements.

Ive done exactly what "Ratwing" has done "thamesrover". I grabbed a set of aftermarket pod filters off the shelf from REPCO .No more looking around for replacement filters .Just a six monthly clean ,same time I drop the engine oil and they keep the original "look" - hidden away in the old airbox. Ive never liked the look of pods hanging off the carb bodies. Bit baboon bum to me.
