90's Rover advert

I was watching a 1993 Ben Elton DVD in the week and he's taking the "p" out of a Rover advert - "80% of our cars are finished by hand " Anyone remember that ? What model was it aimed at ?

Rover 800 coupe. 80% of interior and exterior were finished by hand.

Was it the Coupe specifically ? They were very expensive , so that might explain it
Ben Elton was cynically suggesting it simply meant that someone had hand polished the paint !

I think it was as there was a lot of work in them. They had some kind of "craftmanship" selling point.

Probably meant that they had to finish off the body work and trim the interior. I am not sure who built the bodies for them.

Wonderful.

I'd have to say, if the 800 Coupe needed any defence, that they are superb cars. I had a very battered black one (Honda engined) a few years ago - drove it around for six months and then sold it at a profit.

I'd have another one tomorrow if the right car came up. They're lovely motors.
