Ok, where do I begin? Ive come to a decision about my 77 P6.
The simple fact is the car needs lots of work, IMHO, to get it to the kind of standard that I want and, being brutally honest, I neither have the time nor the skill to do it.
Im also getting massive grief from the wife, as this is a nice forum, I cannot repeat verbatim, what she has said. :?
It needs welding around the inner sills, the floor area etc. Ive currently created a patchwork quilt of shite welding on the drivers side which has left me most upset that I am hopeless at welding and fabricating. All my rubbish work needs cutting out and starting again.
Thats just the drivers side. Ive not closely examined the passenger side, however, there is some fibreglass layed to the floor by the inner sill ( yet another bodge) so im not expected the passenger side to be all hunky dory.
Ive not had the wings off, well i nearly had the passenger one off when the car shot forwards into the corner of my garage door...
Basically, it COULD be patched to a good standard and used but what it really needs is somebody with the time and skills to do a proper job on it.
Considering it is one of the last V8s registered, I think it deserves bringing back to standard.
Right, thats, in the main, the bad news.
The good news now. The car is MOTd to the 24th of May and taxed till the end of the month. It is complete. The interior is mango and is good, infact a good clean up of it will make it look excellent. The carpet looks to be almost new, the tyres are good and i have bills for a top end rebuild to the sum of £750 carried out by the Rover specialist Ely service. I estimate that this was carried out sometime in 2009 which means the car has not clocked up many miles since then. The Carbs have been rebuit with a kit costing £92.00 also back in 2009, oh and she has a nearly new ( previous owner) electric fuel pump. The car runs lovely, changes up and down fine, although the linkage or whatever needs ajusting as putting her into reverse slams you in the back. The doors are so, so but, I think most could be saved ( again a competent welder could do it) the passenger side front wing is knackered, when i hit the wall it dislodged a large chunk of filler out of the bottom where it meets the valence. Incidentally, the sidelight/indicator was damaged too.
Drivers side cover sill has left the building.
The previous owner replaced the de dion with a good one and did all the brakes/handbrake too.
There is a little bit of history/bills but not much and ive spent around £200 just to get the bits to replace all of the stupid stuff the was on there like the steering wheel etc.
She will come with the original hub caps ( im keeping the S ones) and, well, i think thats it.
Im selling her as a SPARES or REPAIRS!!!!!! I need to make that clear!
What I get for the car is going towards a fund to get a better P6 V8, basically, something that i can look after and spend more time driving that breaking my back working on. Im hurtling towards 50 now, ive got a very physical job which has ruined my back and my knees and i just cant do a full blown resto, even If I had the aforementioned time and skill :(
Price? £600 firm.
The car cost me £750, which is why im not sobbing about it, its not like i went out and spent £3000 on a complete lemon, and ive spent another £200 on it.
looking at the shockers out there that are up for more, i dont think thats too excessive, certainly, it could be broken for parts and it would earn you that much, maybe more.
That doesnt mean i want it broken..........

The car has barely moved since November and, currently I need to put the carpet and seat back and maybe a few other things. She starts fine and im confident that she would get anybody to where they wanted to go BUT common sense must prevail, i think thats obvious, right?
Ok, thats it, i think. :(

Hi mate,

Its been a while since I was on here, the last P6 I had was from another forum member and I should have never gotten rid of it! Is yours still available?

Regards,
Phil
