70,s customs

It certainly does, as did a P6 on the cover of 'Custom Car' magazine once. They were sandwiched between the upper & lower sections of a Rolls Royce grille & the front of the car was sculpted to suit. I've mentioned it before but no-one appears to remember the 'Rover-Royce'.

The Bedford HA van with the roofchop and Mk2 Escort grille is still about and attending shows regularly.

You mean this one?

It's not that we don't remember, it's just that we're all trying to block it out of our minds.......

 That's it, at last. And it confirms that my memory was wrong, it only has the one grille. Where's the cover shot, have you got that KiwiRover & any interior photo's?
Is the car on Rudiger's database & more importantly, does it still exist & if so, in what form?

If you view the original video at the top of the thread there is a van with a pair of stacked Series 2 centre grilles in there.

That looks hideous as well......

Eye's of the beholder, but admittedly it looks really dated as do a lot of those 70's jobs. Still, it's a shame that there aren't a few more of them at shows. Customising these days seems to consist of buying big lumps of plastic off the shelf & bonding them to your chosen weedy-steed with the fat tailpipe.

The era of sidepipes, Wolfrace wheels and metalflake paint ! People would buy a Mk2 Jag just to use it's disc braked rear axle on a Ford Escort. If I had a time machine I'd go back to the 70's . For the music as well

I've only got that magazine article from '77. Here's the rest of it: :D

I suspect a lot of those old customs meet their end when the rust gets in under all the filler and fiberglass. My Dad had a Toyota Hiace that had been customised in Japan, big roof spoiler, small hinged side door, filled side windows, 3 tone bronze paintjob etc. When it developed a few rust bubbles around the small side windows I started chipping at the filler and it appeared that the whole side of the van was covered in a minimum of 1/2" of bog. The roof spoiler was made of a real estate agents sign covered in filler and there were many more issues I can't recall. I think a lot of them are made to look great for a couple of rounds of the show circuit and then they either die a natural death or get taken apart and rebuilt as something else.

Ah yes, that's the one & I was right about the guy's name though also wrong about which magazine it was. Lord help me, but I quite like the way the front of that car looks in that photo (& that green jacket is fabtabulous). Although rest assured, that won't be in any way influencing Bruiser's new appearance.
I see they also have a feature on the new Fiesta, 1977 being the first year of production & the year of the one we bought recently.
And just how good is FM? "Better than digital", comes the reply across the years.

Thanks for the trip down 'Half-remembered Boulevard' KiwiRover.

i would love to go anglia racing for £50  it costs my brother more than that to fill up his race anglia tank :D

I was a Street Machine mag devotee back in the day. Strange how what seemed absolutely fashionable and trendy then looks utter cack now!!
IIRC, I was 14 when i bought the very first Street Machine issue 1 with the legendary ( In those circles) Henry Hirise Ford Consul with Chevy V8 power.
Im sure it came with a floppy 7 inch record which recorded the quarter mile runs it made? Anyhow, no more than 4 years later I was smoking about in a proper V8 too! :D
Ok, it wasnt a Chevy V8 but it wasnt a Ford Anglia either, it was a bit of class P6 V8 power......... 8)

I wasn't as lucky. Didn't get my first P6 until four months ago:- the wait was worth it though. :D

Found the mag cover.

Yeh,cool isn't it 8) .
I have to confess that I have wondered about obtaining some suitable 70's attire so that could get into character for those Sunday afternoon drives .
So far, I have managed to resist scouring charity shops for flared trousers, nylon shirts and wicked jackets with big lapels  .
