5 speed gearbox lubricant

I noticed in Practical Classics that Rover recommend using ATF in SD1 gearboxes not Hypoy. This apparently stops notchiness when cold. I'll try this on my 3500S (late SD1 g/box) next time I change the oil, has anyone else tried it?

As an automatic driver I cannot answer this but why not ask Rover SD1 owners the same question.
