3500 auto with air con

My word, that is a very rare beastie! The underbonnet view clearly shows the standard factory set up, but there are a couple of oddities. First off it doesn't seem to have the A/C front decker panel - which comes with a slightly different air intake and a bulge at the off-side front corner of the heater box. Also, I would have expected a K reg car to have come with the single centre scoop and NADA style intake system on the air filter housing.

Pity there are no clear views of the centre console to suss what sort of condition the front plate of the A/C is in - although Keynsham1 has shared a means of reproducing this with us!

If I didn't already have Lucky I'd be sorely tempted by that one!

Chris

Hello Chris,
That bulge should be at the rear of the heater box, so would probably not be visible in these shots. Also, I think you'll find that the single scoop set up was only on suffix 'A' cars, that is, series 2 cars with a 4 way fuse box and HS6 carbs.
Might have a punt at this one myself!

Judging by the date of first registration this will be a suffix 'B' car.

Typically it's at the other end of the country or I'd be going to have a look..

Sorry lads i just bought her i fell in love with the beastie as soon as i saw it and an added bonus for me is the reg begins with CB which is my initials :D the missus said it was meant to be so i had to buy it  put it this way if the missus liked it i was onto a winner from the start 8)

I hope there are NO nasties either  the seller informs me that one of the previous owners were in the Rover P6 club which one i am not sure so this car may be known to someone :? if so please get in touch i have sent Rudiger a few details and await his response

Hi All,
I have just been on Rudigers brilliant website and my new purchase appears to be listed as an unknown car there is even a picture of my beastie CBT 126K  I now have alarm bells ringing in my head now does unknown mean its dodgy  is there any way i can check the VIN :? any advice very much appreciated

Chris (York),

I have given up with the transfer method for remaking the air con panel. It is OK in theory, but is too fragile and always gets damaged when fitting. I have now gone for a vinyl covered piece of 3mm thick aluminium. The window switch pops in neatly, and apart from the missing numbers and writing, it looks factory fit. I decided I would rather have something looking good but not original, than something original but tatty. I have to sit and look at it all the time after all!

Hi Chris (York),
Im confused is this post related to my new purchase :?:

Hello Chas,
Yes it is, sort of. The air-con switch panel is a backlit plastic moulding that is notoriously fragile. If you happen to be lucky & have one that is not cracked, or only has the start of some very small cracks ( usually starting from the screw holes ) than treat it with a lot of care! If you're not sure how to remove it, then I'm sure there are plenty of us on here to give a bit of advice.

Good luck!

Thanks Roly and Chris(York)

Hi All,
I collected the car today BUT after seeing the car in the flesh and and pushing my fist through most of the boot areas and inner wings are just as bad i was going to walk away until the seller dropped the price to an amount i could NOT refuse :D I beleive the seller to honest and truthful but his supplier may be a **** i told him to BEWARE of future dealings with him it now makes my 74 V8 base unit mint compared to this one. On another plus side the leather interior is very good with no rips tears or stitching gone and just needs a clean and feed the panels are usable just the front wings are going a bit. Engine and box performed well but think the carbs need retune and manifold leak sorting so my dilemma now is do i re-shell it with my later base unit :?: :?: :?: if i do i won't be transferring a/c it looks too complicated  god descisions :? descisions :? any advcie lads&lasses

This is the first time I've seen this post Chas, but your car was local to me & you'd no doubt have by-passed my town of Driffield when you picked it up. If I remember correctly it was owned by a chap in Beverley for many years (probably from new) until he died perhaps 15 years ago.

I seem to recollect that it was very well maintained by him, but may have had the air-con disconnected as it was returning something like 13mpg with it connected.

Since then I lost track of it. It was still in the East Riding of Yorkshire (*BT plate) after all these years, & I would expect it to have a 'Gordon Armstrong' supplier plaque under the bonnet from either Beverley or Hull.

Good luck with it!

Hi Phil,
Im sure i went through Driffield but was probably concerntrating on keeping it running or dying from monoxide fumes at the time so didnt really notice  as you say it does have a brass plate fitted to slam panel you have been a goldmine of info mate thanks for that
