2200 TC carbs

I am thinking to convert my 2000 TC from the twin HS8's to the twin HIF6's of the 2200 TC.
Therefore i will need the complete set up, except for the manifold. Carbs, linkages, air filter, etc.

Thanks,

I agree that ought to be a very worthwhile conversion! Potential for a much torquier bottom end without losing the top end, plus much easier to set up on account of higher gas velocities at low rpm.

There's one key difference to the 2200TC set up. It is the only P6 with a cable throttle! The cable finishes at the bulkhead in a bracket attached to the steering idler bracket - hence that is a special too (I have a NOS one if you want). My advice would be to retain the 2000 throttle linkage and find a way of mix and matching (ie bodging) onto the 2200 carbs. Alternatively my preference would be to use twin HS6, which are reasonably common from all sorts of makes, including the P6 V8 - I'm not a fan of the HIF series, I prefer the simplicity of the HS.

Hi Chris,

i 've been there, done that with my 1300 in the past, having tried all sorts of carbs, single HS4, twin HS2, Single HIF44, and finally back to the single HS4. With the right needle (most important) it has all the low down torque it needs to pull strong on a 3,1:1 final drive  , refinement, economy and emissions are excellent, while i don't think it had lost much in the top end. It suits my driving style anyway.

It makes me wonder why Rover went over the top with the TC and made its life difficult by using the 2 inch carbs. I know about the cable throttle, but i will worry when i will have all the parts in my hands. I also have mixed feelings about the HIF range, but i would prefer to start from a complete 2200 setup, rather than gather parts for mix n' match. The needle selection might also be a problem, as perhaps the needles for the 2200 will be rich for a 2000, but i thought of the late 2000 TCs for the Italian market. Perhaps these cars used also twin HIF6 carbs, so this could be a starting point.

There are some on e bay atm, http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/rover-p6-carburet ... arParts_SM

I've already replaced the HD's on my car with HIF's and it certainly makes a difference,
Mine was originally an SC auto that had a TC head fitted, along with a pair a HD8s,i could never get these carbs to run right so as a last resort i fitted the HIF6s that i had in the shed,
I junked the 2200 airbox in favour of the pancake filters for two reasons,

1,I hated the look and bulk of it,and the HS/HD airbox won't fit the HIF carbs,
2,it was recommended that i put free-er flowing air filters to compensate for the slightly over-rich mixture, and you don't have to remove the airbox to adlust the carbs

Cheers Kevin,

i 'll keep an eye on these. I was too considering the pancake bare filters, but i have a few reservations.
I would not like the extra noise that they will create.
I will miss the hot intake on start up facility, to reduce the warm up time.
I would like to keep the look of the engine bay relatively stock.
Otherwise, i agree with the plus points that you mention. I still have some time to decide.
Thanks also for the photos on the cable set up. I guess in my case it is somewhat more complicated.
It is a LHD car and i have to worry about the steering box, the brake fluid reservoir and the assortment of relative pipes being in the way.

Thanks for this.
I have something in my mind for the rod to cable bracket, and as in my case there's no kickdown, it will be simpler.
