2000 temp sender

Temperature gauge has stopped reading now! gauge is ok as the needle goes right across when I short the wire out. Does anyone know if a sender from anything else will fit? Had a quick look on Ebay but there is nothing for 4 cylinder P6s. Someone suggested BMC A series sender might be the same. Has anyone ever cross referenced part numbers to see what will fit? I could try the local motor factors but I know I will get the usual blank expression and "computer says no...." when I say Rover 2000. :?

Yes, you can screw one in from an A series, but there's no guarantee that the gauge will show the correct reading.
However, it does no harm to try a few if you have them handy. You see they were quite a few types according to the type of the gauge that they were connected.
But if your gauge suddenly reads high, you should first confirm the actual engine temperature before you start to worry!

May sound really daft, but if you ever get from South Lincs up to Skeg, try the army navy spares place on chip Alley. You woul dbe surprised about them. Shop looks like they only cater for newer cars from the outside but they are so helpful it is unbelievable. They have managed to get me quite a few little bits for my s1 P6.

If it is any help, their phone number is 01754 767 263.

..which is what the forum is all about...local, pertinent knowledge freely shared. Nice one Grant! :D

And yes...remember Skeg from my youthful holidays. Leicester people known as Chisits in Skeg...as in...How much is it? :D

That might be worth a look I'm not that far from Skeg. Have they had a shop there very long? cant recall seeing it last time I went although that was 6 moths ago maybe more.

Found one for a quid at Newark autojumble! Part numbers are Intermotor 5294 Unipart GTR109 Smiths TT4805/00 if anyone else is having problems finding one, it doesnt look like they fitted anything else.
