Hi Guys,

I hope you can help me. On a regular basis I cannot engage any forward gear. I can engage reverse but this only clears the gate if I actually move the car, even just 6 inches.

Any ideas, maybe this has been discussed before, apologies if it has.

Engine running or not?

If it's difficult engaging gears when the engine is not running then it'll probably be a selector problem. The selector finger on the end of the remote arm is a favourite for causing that. If it's difficult engaging gears with the engine running then could be the clutch dragging.

Hi Dave,

I only have the problem with the engine running, feels like a metal to metal problem to me. A new clutch was fitted about 2000 miles ago.

If you could manage to pop-in to Bonnyrigg some time on your travels up and down from the Borders that would be great, then you can see for yourself.

Your advice would be much appreciated.

Its a safe fact of life that the bit you touched last is the most likely to have issues....

Yep sounds like clutch slave or master to me, try bleeding the slave first and see how you go from there. The physical clutch is probably fine, it's just the release mechanism hydraulics.

You may find that there is fluid evident on the slave cylinder, or if you peal the rubber boot back some fluid will leak out. You can replace the seals or replace the whole cylinder.
