Just spotted a 1979 T reg 2200TC on ebay..... Big question did it sit around for two years before it was registered, or was it subject to a plate transfer, 'cos as us oldies know, back then, if you did a plate change, you could get a "new" ie current year registration plate....

The last 4-cylinder P6 built - APM536T - wears a 'T' suffix. Some were still being registered that late. I've seen one or two 'S' plate cars but never a 'T' in the flesh (or the metal!)

There was a large batch of LHD cars which were made, but never went abroad. They were converted to RHD by dealerships and sold on the UK Market in 1978-1979. I suspect this car is one of those.

Last day of production: 19th March 1977.

Isnt there A G reg (1990 year)p6 knockig about that was built from a old stock shell and old stock new parts and A few remaunfactured parts...I am pretty sure it was a G reg P6 but I may be wrong and it may be a rover of some other model that was old and made from new parts..

Never heard of, or seen, anything like that Jay.

i may be thinking of another type of rover car..I am sure it was a rover..I know there are a few maestros and montegos that are a very late reg number usually ex mod.

Re:

Very breifly - the maestro production line was sold to Bulgaria (!) where a moderate number were made before the project folded (some of these made it to the UK too). Then the remaininng parts were bought by a garage in Ledbury who assembled them. Hence they are known as Ledbury Maestro's.

All were 1275 with the Diesel suspension and wheels.

Re:

That's not that unusual in Australia. I think they struggled to sell them and they sat around in showrooms for a while. Also they were all technically imported so may have had some delay sitting in shipping yards and going through the Aussie registration process.
I recall a letter in P6 news (I think) from someone claiming to have seen a Rover dealership in Oz advertising new P6Bs in 1981!

Re:

I've heard that too, my dad seems to think that this car sat in a showroom for over a year before his dad bought it.

A Fairy Tale
Imagine A Saturday afternoon with the football result being given out on the television and you sitting checking your Pools entry. The television announcer proclaims that there were only eight score draws, Nos. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8. You jump up and down with delight. The £900.000 is yours. After all, who else would be silly enough to list the first ten games as score draws in their eight from ten. (Sorry Mr. A. of Bromsgrove, I did not know you did). So the first thing to do is to telephone your local Austin Rover dealer - I told you this was a fairy tale.
"Good evening Sir, how can I help you?" asks the salesman.
"What Rovers have you in stock for immediate delivery?" you enquire.
"Well, there is a lime-green 3500 SD1 with purple upholstery, a dayglo orange 213, a cancelled police order 216 in light blue with white doors and a choice of 3500 Auto P6Bs"...
It is with the "choice of 3500 Auto P6Bs" that this fairy tale ends if you live in the South Melbourne district of Australia as the advert reproduced here bears witness. It appeared in the spring newsletters of the various Rover clubs in Australia. Indications from Peter Wilson, who supplied the information, are that some are still available. Based on the rumoured price now being asked for these and the wonderful British system of taxing tax and taxing the taxed tax plus shipping costs, one can be brought into the UK for less than £12.000. First impressions may be that £12.000 is a lot of money but remember they are new P6Bs, and what else could you buy for £12.000? Think about it.

Re:

There was a 'W' reg at Sandon Hall Show about 15 years ago. That would make it a 1980 by registration, but in reality the car was a 75 or 76 which had been exported to Malta and then in 1980 had be imported back to the UK.
In August 2010, I rebuilt Mike Renault's Swiss export LHD 3500S manual from a bare metal baseunit and a van full of bits, and that is a 'Y' reg (1982), but again it is in reality a 1972 car that was exported and didn't come back into the UK until 1982.
