1974 3500 auto', Tobacco Brown...

Well here is my brutish piece of 1970's greatness...! It is not really a 'project' as such because it doesn't need too much doing to it. Imminent work is that it needs some welding doing to the inner wing on the passenger side (quite a common rust spot I have been told) that I hope to get done in the next month or two... It also needs a damn good session with the T-Cut and Turtle Wax to give the paint a bit of a deeper shine and lustre... At the moment I have fitted a set of 'S' wheel trims but I would really like a good set of RoStyles, Cosmics or Dunlop D4's... For now I'm happy just to drive it as it is! Here is the motor...

Hi grifterkid,
Nice motor you got there, just a quick thing, you mentioned the T-cut, can I recommend that you get a fine cutting/finishing compound rather than T-cut. Modern T-cut is a bit vicious on older paint and can leave it looking a bit flat. More you use the flatter it gets. I'm in the restoration trade and a bodyshop guy once said to me "T-cut is for savages" his words not mine. I started using fine compound then follow with autoglym super resin polish and finally extra gloss coat that gives it good protection. I hope this helps you. :)

Thanks a million... That's what I like about this forum; helpful, friendly, advice from knowledgeable people...

She is lovely Ash. You did very well.

I believe the flitches will need to be done for an MOT - not difficult to the right man :D

Cheers
Nick

yes a lovely looking car there,i would reccomend using a cutting compound called G3 make sure u use a damp cloth wen u rub it in,polish off and use that autoglym super resin polish straight over the top,i have done that to loads of cars where the paint has faded and they cum up a treat, good luck Bri :D

Very nice looking P6B there! 8)
Re the paint, maybe a decent paint cleanser would bring the finish up without the need for a harsher cutting compound. Something like One Grand Omega Glaze or Zymol Pre-wax Cleaner (a pricer option) etc.
Just be sure to wax the paint afterwards to 'seal' it.

Regarding that welding,
I recently found mine had gone in that area from investigating a damp carpet.
How well is your heater working?
I've been told if some of the vents get blocked etc, water can get forced down into that region, anyone confirm this??
There is no apparent corrosion on the underside of my car that could let water in from the road, and my heater had become very weak of late (not demisting at all, not getting hot)
I'm in the process of overhauling the heater as we speak, i've descaled and flushed the matrix out of the car, waiting for new hoses to arrive, fixed heater 'temp' vent flap which had come unhinged oneside, and removed lots of leaves etc.

I have no idea if these two are definitely related, but worth investigating if you're getting it welded.

Thanks for the nice comments folks...! Further to my initial post and my desires to fit some period alloy wheels to it I now know what ones I want to fit but need some help locating them... They are the Avon safety wheel and they were fitted to the Bristol (Zagato body) in the 1970's as well as being available as an after-market accesory as it were... A different style was fitted to the 'Droop Snoot' Vauxhall Coupe but these are the ones I want...

I assume they fit on a P6 as they are on one here (please note the red 'S' does not belong to me, I found the picture on the Retro Rides forum)...!!!

Nice looker 8)

It's a quite low mileage car - just coming up for 60k if I remember rightly, which means it's pretty unmolested structurally.

It does seem to be pretty solid on the whole... I believe it has had some welding done in the boot area (and I want to get this stripped down to bare metal soon in order to rust protect and re-paint in a double tough, over cautious, way!!!) to rectify a common problem area but I think that is it... Let's hope it is anyway...!!!

Well the first drivable weekend of 2010 was used to the full for my P6B...! After the snow, ice, grit, salt, slush hell that was on our roads for a couple of weeks earlier this January I did not want to get the brute too dirty/rusty/deceased...!!! I took the opportunity to take some suitably 'period' photos at a glorious 1960's office complex (the 'Birdseye' building) near my pad, see what you think...
