Folks
Just idly browsing around eBay and spot this car for sale.

Please DON'T believe a word they say about this one...about three years ago myself and several friends were drawn up to Manchester to see it (I wrote about it in 'Driving Force' at the time) and the car, far from being a low mileage time warp as the owner described, had a lot in common with something that had been parked at the bottom of the sea for a long while. Structurally it was horrendous and should have been scrapped. There was no way it was coming back.

I have the photos to prove at home.

Just in case anyone was tempted.

Cheers
Nick

Looks good in the pictures too me. Maybe its had a load of work done to it. Guess you always have to go and see in person. Like the 1964 one that was going on the Island, looked good in the pictures but had the most shocking paint work in the world. Although that being an early car was well worth the £500 the owner wanted. From what I've herd its been brought and is now being restored by a pro before being shipped to mainland Europe, can't remember of the top of my head where.

It's always a little doggy giving a bad review on an eBay P6 as the owner may be listening. But then you have to way that up against warning of a basket case being off loaded.

To me, these cars are at the age that you can't by a car that is below a grand and does not need bodywork done to it, although from what you say its could be hiding some horrors. Lets hope what you saw had been put right.

You do have to be carefull comenting on vehicles that are for sale, as we found out recently when the convertible was for sale.

However, if they are a user of this forum, the seller has the opportunity to contest Nick's claims and maybe offer some photos of the common rot areas to prove it's condition.

I guess we'll have to wait and see...

Personally I wouldn't buy a car without seeing it in the flesh, I've seen plenty that look fantastic in photos but are rubbish up close, or where the photos have been taken "just right" to miss the worst parts.

I put this up to stop anyone going for a very long and fruitless trip...which is what I did in 2005, as the vendor was speaking with a very forked tongue indeed. But he couldn't argue with an army of P6 experts, which I luckily had with me. I ended up buying my 1964 car, a good move.

The car was really, really ragged. The base unit was not really there. I'd doubt if anyone would have the inclination/will power to try and put that right.

Cheers
Nick

Amen to that...I must have sold about six cars on eBay in the last year...and NO-ONE came to see them before they sold. Lucky I wasn't speaking with forked tongue when it came to descriptions!
