...BTW was that an old pint jug I saw on the dash?

Indeed it was...but not contemporary sadly!

Nice one Stan,Welcome to the world of the 4 pot!
At 90 odd thousand miles, and an SC without an oil pressure guage, watchout for those bearing shells........ Bri.
No problem at all Bri...I know where to come knocking now!

Now that is a beautiful car, and a great colour! :D
Does it have the early cardboard dash, or just a little too late?
As for a trailer - try Paul Ridley through the SD1 website. He does it professionally, and has brought an XJS and XJ6 to my place without any problems. Decent rates too.. and always good to keep classics in the family ;)
Not sure about the dash Chris...I'll have a better gander when it's here. Thanks for the tip re Paul...I'll bear that in mind.

Mine's got 90K on the clock...but who knows after 44 years! :)

Hi Dave...sure OCY (aka The Tart) would turn on me if I turfed her out! :D At the moment she's backed up on ramps with the fuel tank out, which will be refitted this evening with a refurbed sender (courtesy of Dave McSweeney - cheers Dave!)

Can you squeeze both in ???
Quite possibly...but no room to work!

Looks like a good buy that Stan! :)
Apart from a couple of minor perfs in the boot floor she looks really solid.
Radiator, servo & carb out...and Gunk'd! :D

Well done on the purchase, Stan.

It's nice to have 'one of each'. One P6 is never enough!

Thanks Phil, you're not wrong!

And like your long-term project - Dunlop brakes on this!

That must be a late '65 build or very early '66 then. I'm re-doing mine with Dunlops. I haven't quite decided whether to leave it as +ve earth yet, though. :|

I notice you missed out the word 'very' in long-term project - thanks

The car must have hung around a while then after build? Registered 07/07/66.

Haynes has it that Dunlops were fitted on SC's up to D chassis number suffix, and TC's with suffix letter A. Mine's an SC with a D suffix so I guess it was pretty close to the Girling switch.

I'll certainly be keeping them! :D

Sticker on the inner wing of mine says -ve earth. Not sure when the switch was but glad they did!

Great Stan,

I think you've got the "cast boss" on the side of the engine block to the left of the sealing plug underneath the engine number. Check that you've got that.

This should mean that you have the latest block and use the thicker composite head gaskets (not the thin shim type), and the main bearings will have the oil holes in the centre bearing instead of a plain bearing.

Bri.

Like this Bri?

By the way there is, thankfully, an oil pressure gauge fitted....

Fair bit of cleaning to do! :D

I didn't know what I was starting When I started this thread, thought it was just an early
S1 with some work already done and would only want a bit of fettling. I didn't think it would
have Dunlop brakes, I wonder what would have happened to it when the previous owner
encountered any problems with them. nice to see it has gone to a good home. Well done!!
