1966 2000SC - Rebekah

Hi all,

Given a number of issues, by far the most prominent of which being my good lady's medical condition that will require my care and involvement for the next few years (hopefully many!), I'm somewhat reluctantly coming to the conclusion that Rebekah's restoration may not get completed in my stewardship.

For those who don't remember, this is she....

http://www.classicroverforum.net/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=7854

First registered July 1966, and as such is one of the last Dunlop-braked cars.

I've not 100% made up my mind to sell, but it seems a shame, given the current focus on the early cars, for the project not to be actively pursued. I've had a chat with Clive Annable and there may be a possibility, but no more than that, he could be interested. If not, he'll certainly ask around.

Work done

Engine removed and rebuilt: Crank regrind (- .020" on mains, - .010" on big ends) and new shells fitted. Bores deglazed and new standard rings fitted. New chains and sideplates.

Later gearbox sourced from ebay and rebuilt by me to the Workshop Manual. Operates smoothly.

Engine ancillaries checked over and refurbed as required.

Prop shaft UJ's replaced.

Rear suspension components checked, cleaned and painted.

Good points

Sills have been replaced in the past and look in very good order.

Underside looks equally good.

Car has had a respray by the previous owner who was in the trade, and looks in fairly good order. Most of the stainless and interior trim had been removed for this, but looks to be all there.

Irvine static front seat belts present

Work to do

Boot floor needs welding in a few places.

Braking system needs overhauling. I do have a pair of NOS rear discs to include.

Engine bay needs a blast and respray.

I would really like someone to take the car on as an active project and get her back on the road. The car's in Leicester and will need trailering.

I'm completely in the dark regarding the car's value as she stands. I've spent around £1200-£1500 getting the car to this stage - which I realise I'll have to take a fair loss on. So, if anyone is looking for such a project give me a call/PM to discuss - I honestly won't be insulted by lowish offers! :)

Cheers,

Stan

Re: 2000SC - Rebekah

good luck with her stand would love to have her but no room hope it all works out for u both

Re: 2000SC - Rebekah

It's a shame you can't see the restoration through, but at the end of the day of course even P6s are 'just cars'. It goes without saying that health is paramount to just about anything.

My sincere best wishes to your good lady & yourself, Stan.

Re: 2000SC - Rebekah

Good luck Stan,it shouldnt hang about for too long!
Are you going to continue with the Traveller or move that on as well?
Sorry I didnt have time to pop in today while collecting the traveller seats in Notts!!
Its turned out to be one of the busiest weekends in my diary since the P6 show!

Thanks Dave,

The Traveller's a much easier proposition, bodywork's in good nick and it's really just a few mechanical mods and refurbs (renew front & rear suspension, fit front disc brakes and rear telescopic dampers) that're all easy stuff. So I'll get that done and probably move the car on/return it to the original owner's widow, depending on her view at the time.

Glad you got sorted in Nottingham :) , invitation still stands if you're around here again,

Cheers

Thanks for your good wishes Guy...she's a fighting trouper!

No takers for Rebekah so far then everyone? Hmm...the dreaded ebay may loom then. :(

By the way, Rebekah was the only name I/we could come up with given her registration prefix (RBH).

Others may be more imaginative of course!

If Only I was working I would have taken Rebekah (and kept the name) on as I now have room, but no money to spend for her as Buttercup is drinking what spare money I have at mo

Thanks Guy, and good luck with the job search. Sure something will turn up for you! :)

Re: 2000SC - Rebekah

Just a bit of a bump on this.

Although I've had some mild interest, nothing concrete has happened yet. Having whisked her away from the crusher 3 years ago, I really would like someone to take up the cudgels and get her back on the road.

So much so that, if anyone wanted to but cash is tight, I'd be willing to consider some sort of staged payment plan.

Any interest guys (or gals!)?

Re: 2000SC - Rebekah

Further to Rebekah, there are a couple of (mildly-heated :) ) irons in the fire either of which may (or may not) come to fruition.

I've taken a few more pics today:

Rebuilt engine - reground crank, new -20 mains, -10 big-ends, rings, chains, sideplates.

I've now got all the shims needed to set the valve clearances.

Ancillaries. e.g. Starter and Dynamo stripped and overhauled

Rebuilt gearbox. New bearings, selectors all set up to WM.
This is not the original box, but a slightly later one from a TC with the cast remote.

Rear Arch, Underside & Sills
With the exception of the boot floor, the base unit is in very sound condition. Will need a bit of a tittivate at the extreme rear of both sills. The boot floor is possibly repairable. but really should be cut out and a GSH section let in.

Front end. Again, all sound but obviously needs a blast and spray.

Interior. Correct seat belts. All instrumentation and switchgear present and, as far as I can see, working.

Miscellaneous bits.

As before, PM me or ring if you need any more info or photos.

Thanks,

Stan

Hi all,

Just a bump on Rebekah to see (now that Spring's hopefully not too far around the corner! :) ) if there's any interest in taking Rebekah under their wing and giving her a new lease of life.

If so, PM/email me or give me a call if you'd like any further info/pics.

Cheers,

Stan

Stan, is there any way it could be quickly put back together and MOT'd to make it more saleable?

Hi Paul,

I'm not sure whether you mean for me to put it back together quickly? If so, you'll know that's not really my style as I like everything to be just tickety-boo. However, for reasons previously stated, time is at a bit of a premium for me these days. Ironic really, having managed to escape working for a living last year!

If you meant could someone else get it MOT-able quickly, then yes for sure. Depends what standard they want the finished article to be I suppose.

Now summer's (allegedly) around the corner, I'd have thought there must be someone out there looking for a project...so, a bump for Rebekah! :)

Saved from the crusher a few years ago, I think she can now fairly quickly make a great car for someone who can wield a spanner, and invest some time and a little cash to get her back on the road...and not that many Dunlop-braked cars left around. I can arrange transport at reasonable cost.

Price still very negotiable...give me a call or PM or more info, or just a chat about her!

A quick update:

Having temporarily refitted the rear suspension and steering, Rebekah now rolls and points in the required direction. Obviously this would make loading to a trailer more viable.

A forum member visited yesterday for a good look over her and chat, and is now weighing things up.

Nothing is finalised, so she is still available at the moment. As previously posted, apart from the boot floor, she has a really solid base unit.

Give me a call or message if you're interested! :)

Hi all,

One last bump for Rebekah.

Members of the RP6C with email addresses registered should now have received a mailshot regarding the car. Many thanks to Michael Allen for taking the time to organise this, especially given his current woes on the Red Rover.

I've also listed her again on Car & Classic:

http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C509852#

I'll be giving it another week or two but if no solid interest emerges during that time then, sadly, the car will be a breaker.
