123Ignition Distributor

Am still having problems sorting out my car (1972 2000TC) engine. It still sounds like the proverbial bag of hammers. Anyway, late yesterday I removed the distributor while checking the firing order and timing and am now without a spark. The car was fitted with a 123 ignition electronic distributor around six years ago by a previous owner. I don't have a clue how these things work. Could someone please advise how to carry out a checking procedure to determine what the problem may be ....regards georgecook
 
With the distributor cap removed , should I be able to see the diode lamp shining when turning the aluminium rotor on the base plate. Or are there other ways to determine whether the unit is still working....georgecook
 
Yes the led will light up, but you need the ignition switched on. If not check the supply and ground connections.
