    Broken oil pump idler

Ooof! :( What causes the oil pump gear to crack and fail like that? Hope you don't find more carnage when you inspect further.

    Engine wont rev above 3000rpm

Apologies in advance if it this already been suggested, but I admit that I haven't actually read this whole thread. I'd just like to point out out that the reserve fuel tap can get stuck midway between normal and reserve fuel supply, which prevents sufficient fuel getting to the engine. This...

Recommended manifold for V8 Weber/Edelbrock conversion?

@PeterZRH In all honesty, I haven't a clue! I've no experience with Rovers own Hotwire EFI, nor of these new-fangled Holley Sniper systems. I'm not going to pretend to fully understand how either system functions. I gather that there are Sniper systems which mimic a four-barrel carb, using four...

Recommended manifold for V8 Weber/Edelbrock conversion?

There's no issue fitting an Eddie Performer manifold under the bonnet of a P6. It'll fit fine. You could top it off with any suitable four barrel carb, or try a fuel injection set-up such as the Holley Sniper. I used to have a 390cfm Holley on a Performer intake in my V8 P6, and it made for...

Ex-Met Police 3500 P6 sold at Historics Auction, Ascot

Surely the odometer reading shows that it has travelled less than two thousand miles since it last went "round the clock"!? I chuckled at the inclusion in the sale of an officers flat hat and a pair of handcuffs, a nice pair of props with which the new owner can indulge in a bit of 'cosplay'!

My '72 P6 V8 is back in use on UK roads and once again wearing its silver on black 'K' plates!

I was delighted to get my old jalopy back today, having had the broken N/S diff output shaft replaced. I am so glad to be able to call upon the services of a capable mechanic with in-depth knowledge of these cars, the estimable Graham Ransley of Brooklands Motorcraft. In addition to making it...

My '72 P6 V8 is back in use on UK roads and once again wearing its silver on black 'K' plates!

Thank you for that reassurance, @harveyp6. I didn't much like the idea of having a diff with one output shaft weaker than the other. Good to know they are a common part between the various models.

My '72 P6 V8 is back in use on UK roads and once again wearing its silver on black 'K' plates!

@ampwhu I reckon the occasional stubbed toe is a small price to pay for having a spare V8 diff in your stash of spares. Maybe you can store it vertically somehow. I reckon if you were to dispose of it, you'd soon find yourself wishing you hadn't. You just know how Murphy's Law seems to come into...

My '72 P6 V8 is back in use on UK roads and once again wearing its silver on black 'K' plates!

Don't ya just hate it when the spare 'V8 diff' turns out to be from a four pot!? Damn and blast. After the last time I lunched a P6 diff, I think I drove my previous 3500 for at least two years with what I had been assured was a V8 diff, without incident. I thought it got out of the hole quick...

My '72 P6 V8 is back in use on UK roads and once again wearing its silver on black 'K' plates!

    @Baron von Marlon guessed correctly. I just received this photo from the man with the spanners, the dependable Graham Ransley, proprietor of Brooklands Motorcraft;

My '72 P6 V8 is back in use on UK roads and once again wearing its silver on black 'K' plates!

Shortly before Christmas last year my P6 suddenly ceased to provide forward motion. I lost traction on a slippery smooth manhole cover in very wet weather. Then something went 'Bang!', very loudly, and there was a smell like gunpowder. An awful gnashing metallic noise came from the tunnel, and...

    Throttle coupling replacement

I don't really know much about 3D printing, but I gather it is possible to print metal (!!!) and actually have it be quite strong these days. I should probably keep a couple of spares of that part in the glovebox, having also had them fail on me on two occasions. The original ones go yellow and...

    Throttle coupling replacement

Maybe you could design a beefier one and have it 3D printed out of a tougher material than the original item? I think our fellow P6er sdibbers over in the US does low volume 3d print stuff, doesn't he?

    3500S manual pedal box

    3500S manual pedal box

@ewokracing I have a hunch that the kit in Bernd's photo is of the set-up out of a four cylinder P6, where the clutch master sits right next to the brake master ??? I found a photo of the pedal box I used when I converted my car from auto to an LT77, and the bracket that holds the clutch master...

    Stripped thread

May I suggest opting for a time-sert, which is an even better way of fixing a stripped thread than a helicoil. They were installed from new by Rolls Royce, which is surely the best recommendation.

    Discovered a nasty crack.. 1972 P6 2000TC

The full chassis stiffening kit from Classeparts comprised quite a few more plates than just the 'boomerang' shaped pieces that Stephen has linked. If I can unearth the fitting instructions from the engineers at the Australian Rover Owners Club who devised it all, which I have stashed somewhere...

Ooof! @Wilfred Oldtimer , that looks pretty bad. I think you'll need to enlist the help of a very experienced specialist. Fortunately, these cars have always had a keen fan base in the Netherlands. I humbly suggest you get in touch with the folks at www.classic-rover.nl . Not that I have any...

    Spitfire Multispark... any good??

@eggbert68b I didn't do before and after exhaust emissions tests, nor have I ever had my car on an engine dyno, but it started much quicker than when I had a standard coil. I also had a Pertronix Ignitor fitted in the dizzy at the same time, replacing the points. So, hard to say what bit of kit...

    P6b manual to auto

My bad. Sorry. FWIW, I would be inclined not to attempt the changeover, but look for a nice auto 3500 so as to be able to own one of each flavour!

    Spitfire Multispark... any good??

@eggbert68b you don't really expect your half-century old V8 to be economical on fuel though! As you state, Multiple Spark Discharge (MSD) modules are the race proven approach. I have their Street Fire module fitted to my P6B, and I'm very happy with it.

    P6b manual to auto

The crankshaft is identical. The flywheel is different. The spigot bush that is fitted into the back end of the crank has a different inner diameter. The transmission tunnel in the automatic cars is wider than the manual cars. Might be a tight fit cramming an auto box into a manual tunnel...

    Spot the (not) difference

I thought the stainless bumpers came from Vietnam, or Thailand...?? Wherever, as long as they're well made! I read somewhere that they come without the holes for the number plate lamp, which would suit me just fine. Thanks for the tip, @cobraboy. Those LED number plate lights look like a nifty...

    Spot the (not) difference

I hadn't noticed the lack of a front number plate, but yes, now that you mention it, that contributes a lot to the tidy look of the front of the red Rover. I like the tiny little white on black number plates I've seen on some old Italian cars, barely bigger than a cigarette packet. Top marks...
