My 73 3500s has the 10.5:1 CR engine and is detuned to TDC instead of 6 degrees BTDC. It runs happily on unleaded or LRP. In the quest for maximum power (why else have a manual?) I'm thinking of using an octane booster to bring unleaded (or super unleaded) back up to 100 or 101 octane. I've...
I need a new gearlever gaiter for my 3500S with an SD1 5 sp conversion. The standard one doesn't do the job as the throw on the gearlever is greater than the standard box and pulls the gaiter out of the centre console. Does anyone have any idea which gaiter will fit? Is it the SD1 part? Or do I...

Apart from trim and the front quarterlight, are there any differences between series 1 and 2 wings and doors? It's a long time since I owned a series 1 and my memory isn't quite what is was - at least I don't think it is.
Has anyone taken front seat apart? I need to replace the driver's seat reclining operating lever as it is broken off. I have a spare front seat, is it a difficult job?
Any advice would be welcome.

I noticed in Practical Classics that Rover recommend using ATF in SD1 gearboxes not Hypoy. This apparently stops notchiness when cold. I'll try this on my 3500S (late SD1 g/box) next time I change the oil, has anyone else tried it?

The rubbers on my steering side rod are perished, but the rod is fine. Does anyone know where rubbers for this and other ball joints can be bought? It seems crazy to buy a new component when only 10p's worth of rubber is needed. They are obviously maunfactured 'cos they're on the new ones!
