Hi Folks A job I have been meaning to do for ages is replacing the vinyl roof on my 3500s. I was told from the previous owner that a previous owner had the car in his garage for years and had been using the roof to store boxes and all other sorts of rubbish, anyway as a result there is some...

    Black L reg. Easter Monday

Hi Lawrence I think it was probably me, although my car is mexico brown. and yes I was surprised to see another one at the same time especially as I was just having a discussion with my son about a white rover p6 the very second you pulled along side how weird is that. I was travelling home...

OEU 124J Rover 3500 1971 - Does anyone know this car

Thanks for the responses. Well rich pictures can be very decieving. I have just found this out top my cost after having a 700 mile round trip wasted. By sellers telling blatant lies just to get you to view their car. I went to see the car with a lot of optimism as I had spoken to the sell at...

OEU 124J Rover 3500 1971 - Does anyone know this car

I am going to view this car on Friday. Does anyone know of this car or it's history. It might help me make up my mind to buy it or not. If all goes ok the wife will be driving a p6 as well, although she doesn't know it yet. It's on the auto trader websiteauto trader. Not sure if this is the...

Hi Thanks for the feedback so far. Chris you are quite right my rover is a 1773 2000 SC. I am located near Glasgow but wouldn't mind travelling a bit (Middlands) to someone who could do a good job for a reasonable price. Is Ian at rover classics within this distance. Thanks Skilly

    power steering - conversion

Hi Touch wood P6 has been running well lately, so i am starting to look at other ways that I could enjoy the driving experience more as it's my everday driver. One thing that would be of interest is installing power steering. I assume it can be done as I am sure I have read somewhere about...

New remote servo - How to get one cheap???

Hi With all the technical stuff and various replies I seem to have got confused as to what the final outcome was to the original question. The reason I am interseted is that my servo is shot too. So I am having it replaced with a new one. I can get a cracking deal on a brand new servo...

I agree, probably a lot of rubbish, so I'm off down the pub to spend the £30 odd or so it would have cost on proper liquid. paul

Cylinder head - To seal or replace

Sorry Richard I didn't even think of taking pictures, wish I had now. As for costs the gasket set cost £40 inc P&P, very good quality one. As for the cost of fitting I managed to get it done for free well sort off. there is a local garage near to me very friendly anyway I managed to negotiate...

Engine additive - Are these any good

Now that I've replaced the head gasket and it's running sweet as a nut, i'm wondering if there is anything that can be done to help keep it like this apart from regualr servicing. I came accross Engine restorer advertised in this months practical classics. It promises to do all sorts of...

Cylinder head - To seal or replace

Got the car back on the road today after having the new gasket fitted. I was fortunate in that there was no damage to the head. What a difference it has made, apart from the obvious it seems to have more power, mind you the old gasket was in a mess, it was aslo split between in the middle. So...

Cylinder head - To seal or replace

I have taken all the advice on board and rather than use the magic potion to try and fix head gasket i'm just going ahead and getting it replaced. I gave the guys at classic gaskets whom Richard recommended, they seemed very nice and helpful so I just ordered a full head gasket set...

Cylinder head - To seal or replace

thanks for the info Richard. Gasket for £6 plus p&p looks a bargin especially if you have used them and can vouch for their quality. I did contemplate doing the job my self however on reading the haynes manual it looked a bit tricky especially as it mentions the removal of the cam shaft etc...

The engine side plates look in good condition. How can you distinguish if it's the head gasket or engine side plate gasket?. These areas are very close together. Paul

Cylinder head - To seal or replace

Hi Guys Just as I've sorted out the fueling problem I had, another problem has developed. The car started to overheat on my way to work yesterday, when I lifted the bonnet I could see steam and water bubbling (sometimes a fine jet of water was squirting out) from the cylinder head just above...
