Who would have thought that a P6B with a snapped crank shaft would still start and have 40lbs of oil pressure!!

only heard of one other occasion with a ford engine .shaft failed in middle .engine ran ok . was found when stripped ! seems the broken shaft was as an angle and slight curve allowing drive to be transmitted along crank as though not broken! so a rare event .

My mechanic (Paul from P&O Motors) has seen it happen on two occasions, one was a Ford too! A Pinto engine.. The other was a 3.9L Range Rover lump, where the two centre caps had fallen out and the crank broke in half at an angle, again, still had good oil pressure and was "moving" sort of.. No one else I contacted had ever heard of such a thing.. Hopefully it wont happen to me a second time.. :)
