Thanks to everyone who responded to this query. I have now added Castrol VM+ to the last fill, but it's still pinking alot. However, this is without yet retarding the ignition, which is the next thing to try. Eventually I will get the head taken off and overhauled (don't have any facilities...

John. Thanks. This all makes sense, and ties up with what my local garage / workshop suggested - Castrol VM+. They are fairly convinced that if I run the car on anything but 4* fuel it will in time burn the valve seats, and common sense tells me that a car designed in the 1950s to run on 100...

I have had the carb stripped and reassembled on my 1971 2000 sc manual (series 2) and the engine tuned / timing adjusted by my local workshop, and although the car now starts, runs and idles much better, it pinks alot, even in 2nd and 3rd as soon as the car is under load. The chap that did the...

Some xxxx smashed the front passenger door glass (main glass, not 1/4 light) recently on my early series 2, 1971 2000 manual (standard triplex glass) , and I have tried to fit a new window. However, having got the whole frame and winder mechanism out, taken it all apart (big mistake methinks) I...
I too live in North London, and there appears to be a real shortage of P6 specialists in the area. Cliff at Turnpike was the best I knew of, from the brief dealings I had with him. Paul Harris based in Wembly area is one contact I do have, but I have not used his services yet, although I did...
John. From my experience with P6s (this is the third I've owned) they are just not that quiet. My 2000 manual gets pretty noisey above 50, and starts drooning at between 60 - 80. I believe this is a fairly well-established feature of the P6 design, and does get commented on in some of the old...

Thanks Nick. This gives a good basis for the process of restoring the car to it's original ride comfort / driving quality. I will also discuss the bush replacement with the chap who will be working on the car for me.
