Thanks Demetris.Hi Carlos,
I doubt that orientation will be causing any functional problems, but i am surprised to see the caps like these. Rover used olives for all the fuel connections, not push on rubber pipes.
Here's what mine looked like:

Perhaps you would want to find and fit the correct parts.
BTW I've got the engine ready to go to the car.
Enclosing a couple of pics.
If the car was an Italian market P6 it could have been a 2000 as they had a tax class that made 2000+cc cars expensive to own. That’s why XJ6’s there were sold as 2.4l instead of 2.8 and above.hence the finned cam cover, but still using HS8s as befits a 2000 and therefore needing an updated adaptation of the air filter box.
Its an Italian market car, it´s got a thermostat that close a flap inside the filter.Looks great. That's an unusual air filter box – is it some sort of export version? Is it thermostatically controlled? It has the look of an engine made after the 2200 was introduced, hence the finned cam cover, but still using HS8s as befits a 2000 and therefore needing an updated adaptation of the air filter box.
Yes, I've bought it in Italy last august. If the car was an Italian market P6 it could have been a 2000 as they had a tax class that made 2000+cc cars expensive to own. That’s why XJ6’s there were sold as 2.4l instead of 2.8 and above.
