Carburetter bowl cap/lid position

Hello people, can I change the position of the back carburetor bowl cap ?
My car came with the cap in the position marked "A" ( see pic ). I guess the cap is not the original one.
I would like to put in the "B" position. Any problem ?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Carlos,

I doubt that orientation will be causing any functional problems, but i am surprised to see the caps like these. Rover used olives for all the fuel connections, not push on rubber pipes.
Here's what mine looked like:

Perhaps you would want to find and fit the correct parts.

Hi, Those straight tails are for nut and olive, they are just not there. Hose tails would have barbs on them.

Thanks Demetris.
Yes, for sure the cap is not the original one. I almost found the correct one ( MGBD ), with the right conector.

BTW I've got the engine ready to go to the car.
Enclosing a couple of pics.:p

Looks great. That's an unusual air filter box – is it some sort of export version? Is it thermostatically controlled? It has the look of an engine made after the 2200 was introduced, hence the finned cam cover, but still using HS8s as befits a 2000 and therefore needing an updated adaptation of the air filter box.

If the car was an Italian market P6 it could have been a 2000 as they had a tax class that made 2000+cc cars expensive to own. That’s why XJ6’s there were sold as 2.4l instead of 2.8 and above.

Its an Italian market car, it´s got a thermostat that close a flap inside the filter.

...and P5s were fitted with 2.6 engines instead of 3 litres for some markets.
