Will this fit "our" Roves?

Yes, it will work with any Rover V8 made for a distributor
Mallory make pairs of color coded springs of different weight and tension that can be swapped onto the centrifugal advance weights to fine-tune the advance curve as well as the unit having a vacuum advance just like the Lucas distributor
Top notch product and around $US250 new if you shop around

That distributor has a wobbly drive whereas your Rover Brenten has a non wobbly drive. If I understood correctly from what Harvey had previously said, you can replace a non wobbly with a wobbly, but not the converse.

How come, if I may ask?

Because you can cut the tongue oil pump drive from the P6 dizzy to fit the SD1 wobbly oil pump drive gear to it, but The SD1 dizzy doesn't have the tongue so if you fit the P6 gear to it you have no means of driving the oil pump.

So you would have a running engine (for a while!!) without a running oil pump, which would mean the engine will not be running for too long!

Where does the drive for the SD1 oil pump come from in that case?

Hi Ant,

The only difference between the P6 and the SD1 in terms of how the oil pump is driven is in the interface between the distributor and the shaft on oil pump drive gear. The former is a solid engagement, by that I mean the tongue on the distributor slots directly into the shaft. The SD1 employs a wobbly drive on the distributor with the oil pump shaft slotting into the 'wobbly'. This allows a degree of movement which helps to prevent binding of the oil pump drive gear.

Ron.

Correct. That's so you can use an SD1 distributor with a P6B oil pump, but TBH I'm struggling to think why anyone would want to....
